Huh.
I earned 200 points by sharing by local knowledge on Google and unlocked 1TB of Drive storage. Thanks, Local Guides!

Score 1 for Apple on the OS upgrade front.  Never had an issue.  Windows 7 to 10 didn't work with the auto-updater, so I had to find an ISO and burn a DVD (good thing I have an MSDN account through work).  Then the install was about 8GB larger than it should be, so (now that my license is supposedly upgraded so 10 will continue to work on this computer) I reinstalled 10 from scratch.  Nope, no license and no way to activate windows.  A few web searches later and I figure out how to get in touch with MS tech support.  Thankfully, MS seems to hire competent support people and after another 30-40 minutes of her connected remotely into my computer and poking around on things, I have a working Windows 10 install.  All of this because I wanted to poke around for 10 minutes and see what all of the fuss is about (and maybe eventually play Fallout 4 when it comes out).  And now I've confirmed that 40GB is nowhere near enough space for Windows (it takes up about 12GB more space than I was lead to believe) so I may need to go through all of this again after I repartition my Mac to make more room for Windows.  Yay.

Be careful where you source your photos.  But seriously, Google has a good copyright infringement case here -- Amazon didn't even bother crediting the photographer.

One more reason to be certain that +Google Cloud Platform has the world's best infrastructure: while bragging about their network, a competitor shows images of Google's network.  (Happened last week, see screen capture below.) Thanks for the acknowledgment, +Amazon Web Services! But next time please show our logo on the slide :-)

Donate and I'll match. We need more trees.

Did you know? Fires have destroyed nine million acres of our forests in 2015. Forests average 4000 trees per acre with each tree producing oxygen for 4 people.

This is fascinating (love seeing the tools in action), though I feel it's worth pointing out that steel is created by the addition of carbon, not the removal.  In the case of a coal or charcoal forge that would have been used back then, the carbon comes from the fire itself when you leave the iron in the forge to heat it up, in direct contact with the coals.

My thoughts go out to my Muslim friends and their families, whose lives will be made more difficult by those who will react exactly how ISIL/ISIS hopes and use the attacks #Paris  to show off their bigotry and ignorance by acting out against anyone different than themselves instead of standing in solidarity with those who have nothing to do with the attacks.

Congrats to my mom for taking home a top prize at the +Washington State Fair (for the second time!) for this incredible piece of art. When you go see it, take a look up close to see just why it's worthy of that blue ribbon.

For all those wondering where the Wingwoman quilt from our taproom has gone...It's at the +Washington State Fair. Not only is it at the fair but it won a FIRST PLACE BLUE RIBBON and the Judges special award of merit. You can see it all during the fair and vote for it to also win people's coice. Congrats to Linda Petersen for quilting such a beautiful work of art!

Surprise! Grocery Store Honey is Not Actually Honey
feedproxy.google.com

That honey that lines the shelves of your local grocery store probably isn't honey at all.

Great place to grab a happy-hour drink after work (or slightly after lunch -- happy hour starts at 2!). Good selection of local craft brews on tap and in 16oz "tall boy" cans, and pretty good food as well.

Great locally-owned shop with new and second-hand LEGO sets, bricks, and minifigs. Pick-a-brick has way more variety than the official LEGO stores, too.

How have I missed this place over the years? Good vegetarian options, and a Persian coworker gave his seal of approval for the meat options he sampled. Paired well with the ginger beer I got from Rachel's (next door), too.
