Nova Scotia is a maritime gem. Together we will travel down the south shore photographing some of Canada's spectacular lighthouses and shorelines. We will start in Halifax and end along the fisherman’s memorial hwy on the last day. This will give you an abundance of opportunities to capture some very iconic Canadian scenes and deep rooted history. Our total distance covered over the 7 days is only 390 miles. Our drive times are short making more time for our photo opportunities
Included: Accommodation, transportation, whale watching excursion, all breakfasts, all dinners and snacks and water during the day.
Not Included: International airfare, daily lunches if you wish to eat, items of personal nature, gratuities, laundry, anything not listed as included.
Workshop is June 12 to June 18, 2016
Instructors;  Kevin K Pepper and Chris Pepper
Price: $3695CDN and a $1000 deposit secures your place on this workshop.
A minimum of 4 photographers to a maximum of 10 photographers on this workshop
June 12 - Day 1 - You will arrive in Halifax Airport in the early afternoon and we will proceed to our hotel in Halifax for a group meeting at lunch to welcome you to the workshop and go over your expectations for the week and give you our itinerary.
After our group meeting we will explore a little of the Halifax waterfront and historic sights and head out to shoot sunset at Peggy's Cove, you will be able to have the sun drop right behind the lighthouse at that time of year.
An evening editing session and discussion on techniques is available to everyone.
Day 2 - It’s an early start to the day as we head to Peggy’s Cove for your second opportunity to photograph the iconic lighthouse for sunrise. Long exposures of the village OR the lighthouse will make some awesome photographic opportunities.
After our morning shoot we will head back to the hotel for breakfast and prepare for our departure for our next destination just an hour away.
In the afternoon of Day 2 we will be going for a scenic drive through the north of Nova Scotia. During this drive we will be stopping at a scenic look out over the Bay of Fundy. The views will captivate you as we will be at the highest elevation for our trip. The remainder of our drive we will be stopping at some quaint lighthouses and villages along the way. Once we arrive at our final destination for the day we can all relax and enjoy some dinner before going out to shoot our sunset. If weather does not cooperate we will stay inside and work on some editing from our day.
Day 3- Today we transition down the Digby Neck for WHALE WATCHING, photograph the Brier Island Lighthouse and visit the world famous “Balancing rock”. At this location we can truly appreciate how the earth has evolved. Geologist have documented that the rocks found in this area once was attached to Africa. After, we will step back into today’s time and go looking for some whales! Many species of whales are migrating at this time of year and are hungry looking for food. The Bay of Fundy offers a pristine Ecosystem for whales making this one of the best whale watching locations in all of eastern Canada. After our whale watching adventures we will work our way back towards our hotel looking for a picturesque lighthouse to photograph with a colorful sunset backdrop.
An evening editing session and discussion on techniques is available to everyone... unless the sunset co-operates.
Day 4- Today we will start our travels to the south shores. On our way we will stop at Cape Forchu lighthouse. This is the newest and most modern light house in Nova Scotia. While we are there we will walk the rocky grounds where pioneer____ once prospected Nova Scotia for a new settlement. But before we leave this location we will step into the world of the local life of a fisherman. Visiting the wharfs in Nova Scotia has to be our favorite part of this trip. The abundance of patterns and colors makes this a photographers dream. The usual calm waters in the harbors offer great reflections for outstanding photographs. Our day will end in Liverpool
Day 5- The morning of our fifth day will start out in Shelburne. Many of Shelburne's buildings date back to Loyalist times. Many descendants of the first-generation immigrant Loyalists still live in the area today. Our focus will be to capture some of these well-kept and abandon buildings on the area. In the afternoon we will travel back to Liverpool and spend the remainder of the day enjoying the sea scapes and quant little town. After dinner we will go to one of our favorite lighthouses to capture a back drop sunset and then work on some milky way phots as there is next to no light pollution in this area.
Day 6 –Get your ND filters today because it’s long exposure workout time. In the morning we will be taking you to a secret spot we found by accident one year. Picture pounding surf on 25-50 foot rock cliffs with the sun rising in our background. This area captivates us every year and we look forward to our return. From here we will travel to Lunenburg, Mahone Bay and Blue Rocks, the first two are historical landmark locations, but Blue Rocks is a small local village that is not on the regular tours, but a fantastic photographic location to capture through your lens.
An evening editing session and discussion on techniques is available to
Day 7 - Our last day together… we will wake up, grab a leisurely breakfast and head along the coast making a few stops in fishing villages before we drop you off at the airport
What you will learn: We will focus on planning for a successful landscape and seascape photo shoot. Learning how to use proper composition and natural objects to help create impactful “keeper” photos. Techniques such as long exposures, HDR and light painting will all be part of our daily activities. Black and white fine art techniques are also available to learn if interested. By teaching you this in Nova Scotia, you can then take that knowledge home and employ these techniques in your local area.
When we are out photographing we will discuss camera settings, holding your camera properly, how to set up a tripod in different terrain, how to care for your gear and what it means to think outside of the box. Our goal is to take you photography to the next step and help you achieve your photography to the next level of learning.
Most of all we want you to have fun and enjoy your vacation. During our visits to the fishing villages we talk to the locals about the hardships and battles of a fisherman’s life. This area is full of East coast history and it is all there for us to learn about and appreciate.
When we return to the hotel we will then open up our laptops and discuss editing techniques to achieve sharper images, how to manipulate color, create better composition from cropping and introduce you to some techniques we use to create more appealing images. #novascotia #photographyworkshops #canadainphotography

Step into the land of the “Group of Seven” painters and capture the essence of the Pacific Northwest. Our destination, Tofino, British Columbia.
Tofino, located in the Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, Tofino typifies the majesty of the Pacific Northwest, boasting flawless natural beauty accentuated by a tapestry of vibrant communities.
This area inspires many renowned artists and artisans, who honor the magic of this land by bringing it into the physical realm. Add to that a climate that summons outdoor enthusiasts from all corners of the Earth and it is clear that Tofino is poised to please the photographer.
In 2016 we are running two separate workshops, a stormy season workshop in November and a summer workshop in August.
Stormy Season Workshop – November 13 to November 19, 2016
Tofino winter is green, lush, lively and so magnificently stormy. With temperatures hovering above the freezing mark, snow is a rarity here.  Tofino is the home of winter storm watching.
Storm watching is more than a season; it’s a thing to do, and a state of mind.   It’s a time when wind sculpted shore side trees yield once again to howling gales.  Rainfall performs its duty in this temperate rainforest, taking breaks for joyful sunbursts.  Massive driftwood logs seem as light as matchsticks as they are shuffled up and down the beach by a powerful tide.
Storm watching is eagerly standing where the beach meets the forest, suited in full raingear, as you watch the giant surf roll in at what seems like slow motion.
When the photography day is finished and we relax inside. Storm watching continues indoors, warmly ensconced in blankets by the fireside, telling stories and eating some Tofino-crafted comfort food.
A Typical Day

We will meet for group reception on each location and you will be given an orientation presentation on the area. We will also show you examples of the kind of photographic situations that you will be in, but also make some suggestions on how you should approach these situations.
A final, detailed itinerary will be provided prior to the workshop.  It is always subject to last minute changes to take advantage of the constantly changing weather and light.  But we will select our locations from some of the following: Rainforest Hot Springs, Private boat tours, Lighthouse loop, Long beach, Combers Beach, Meares Island, Pacific Rim National Park.  We will not have the time to cover all of these locations but will select the ones that provide the finest photographic opportunities at the time based on my experience living in British Columbia
Most of our days will begin well before sunrise.  We will arrive at our location an hour before sunrise.  This will give us an opportunity to photograph in the luminous blue hour.  Because Tofino is so large, some mornings will entail driving times of a half hour or more.  We will continue to photograph through the morning golden hour, that period after sunrise when the sun is still low in the sky and the light especially warm. For our night photo shoots we will leave the classroom for our afternoon and sunset destinations in time to take full advantage of the afternoon golden hour, sunset and twilight for such photographic styles as long exposure and light painting.
An important part of the Tofino photography workshop is feedback and instruction. As mentioned, we will take advantage of the poor light during the middle of the day to review your photos and offer 'classroom' instruction.  In addition to covering such topics as composition and depth of field we will also spend some time on workflow and post processing using Lightroom and Photoshop.
Accommodation will be at the Ocean Village Resort or similar.
Nestled comfortably on beautiful MacKenzie Beach, a short drive from the picturesque village of Tofino, British Columbia, Ocean Village one of the original waterfront destinations in the area. The rustic oceanfront cottages are the ideal accommodations for your Tofino vacation, providing easy access to everything this spectacular area has to offer.
Included... airport pick up and drop off from Nanaimo Airport, transportation, First nights group meal, entrance fees to National Park, photography guidance, accommodation with your own bedroom in a two bedroom cabin.
Not Included... anything not listed as included, trip insurance, alcohol, laundry, items of personal nature.
Arrivals and departures: Please be in Nanaimo, British Columbia to be picked up at 10am on day one. Plan your departure on the last day after 5pm as we will be dropping you off in Nanaimo at 5pm.
Price for the workshop in the summer is $2995.00CAD ($2395USD)
Deposit to secure your place in the workshop is $750.00CAD

On June 26,27,28th Kevin Pepper (K1) and myself will be leading a Loon workshop up in the Kawarthas this year. I picked this weekend with the hopes that we will have a good opportunity to photograph a Loon chick riding on their mothers back. Seeing last year none of the resident pair had mated I have a good feeling this is going to be an exceptional year for this photographic opportunity. Or tour leader Kevin Pepper K1 and boat operator has been living on this lake and photographing them for over ten years now so we will be in great hands. During our stay we will be shooting in prime light to get some of those pictures you have always desired. In our off peak light times we will be enjoying the Northern scenery to the max, taking a drive to look for some local wildlife while stopping at the odd place to photograph some waterfalls and true northern landscapes. Everyday is a new day up there and the possibilities to photograph wildlife are endless. Constant sightings of moose, elk, deer, wolves, bear and owls happen on the daily so you always have to be ready to get the shot. During the nights the sky tends to open up and gives us a beautiful display of the milky way. Light pollution in this area is very little so a crisp clear shot is always possible.

The cost of the workshop is 495 plus HST and includes all meals and beverages while at the cottage and of course a room to stay in for the two nights and three days.

I have already emailed this out to clients who have shown interest therefore we only have one more spot available for this weekend. So if you are interested we would love to see you enjoy yourself in this slice of heaven.
