Dish of the Month at 108 Brasserie

Executive Chef Russell Ford has launched a Dish of Month special to last through the year at his 108 Brasserie. And if February’s offering is any indication, 2016 promises to be an especially tasty month for diners who decide to tuck in at this elegant and buzzing Marylebone Lane restaurant.

Roasted whole turbot for two with trumpet mushrooms, baby onions, spinach gratin, and potato mousseline (£65): that’s February’s DOTM.

Two Champagnes, One Chef | GH Mumm | Perrier-Jouët

Invited by two Champagne houses – GH Mumm and Perrier-Jouët – for an overnight visit to the Champagne region for a meet with their Chefs de Caves (Didier Mariotti of Mumm and Hervé Deschamps of Perrier-Jouët), I enjoyed a behind the peek of what goes into blending two of the world’s most celebrated quaffs and how distinctive each is. A bubbly affair to be sure, the occasion served as an excellent opportunity to discover how these wines differ, while enjoying two showcase dining experiences (one for each wine) crafted by in-house chef for both Mumm and Perrier-Jouët – Josephine Jonot.

Each meal was top quality and tantalising but a stark contrast to the other.

The Postal Museum to Open Early 2017

Slated to open early 2017 at the site of the Mount Pleasant sorting office in Clerkenwell, The Postal Museum will aim to bring 500 years of communications history “through the eyes of one of its most iconic services” while offering visitors a chance to experience Mail Rail with rides through disused miniature tunnels of the world’s first driverless electric railway.

I tagged along to the breaking ground ceremony and media tour at the museum earlier this week and was impressed by a project that promises to deliver a first class experience when it opens its doors to the public next year. I left certain that Londoners and visitors alike will give the new historic attraction their stamp of approval.

One of the victoria cross winners from Roukes Drift was a caretaker at the first site.
Having spent 35 years as a part of Royal Mail ,starting in the M&T section working on many London stations loading and unloading mail and the Travelling post offices. I have seen the underground railway at close range. As a young lad I was put in a sack and dropped down the chute at Liverpool street station for transport on the underground railway. Lucky the staff down there let me out of the bag or i could have landed up anywhere. About 12 years os so ago I did see a video of a proposed extention linking the Pricess Royal Distribution centre in Park Royal with Shops along Oxford st or Regents street. The idea was to give the big stores access and reduce the need for vehicle collections. It never went any further as the decision was made to stop rail services and put everything on the road. May seem stupid in light of todays environmental lobby but in terms of quality it was a NO brainer .I spent six years as a shift manager at the site and can only remember 1 day in all that time where EW&S managed to meet all if their despatch and arrival timetable!

Optimal Lunch at Opso in Marylebone

Greek restaurant Opso has launched a new range of lunch box sandwiches to its menu. The sandwiches are priced at £7 each and are served in a koulori sesame seed bun with a side of hand cut chips and homemade tartar aioli.

An invitation to sample something from the range led to me having a delicious lunch – and to discovering a few other ace reasons to keep this attractive little Marylebone eatery in mind.

As a blogger, editor and journalist, I've had the pleasure of working alongside Fourteen Ten for a number of years now. Very early in this relationship it became clear to me that they were top of the field and would provide their clients with thorough and quality service while ensuring media contacts like me were provided with appropriate and relevant materials for coverage.
