Trophy hunting
Good comment below from Lionaid.

Safari Club International objects to the recent USFWS decision to halt imports of elephant hunting trophies from Tanzania.

In a letter to the USFWS Director, Dan Ashe, SCI President uses the following as an argument to urge a reversal of the ban:

“The role of international hunters has an incredible impact on the ability for Tanzania to manage its wildlife and conduct anti-poaching activities. For example, Tanzania has 157 hunting blocks that cover 30% of Tanzania’s total land area, representing 70 million acres that are managed by private hunting operations. Furthermore, sport hunting employs approximately 3,700 people and supports over 88,000 families in Tanzania.”

SCI sees this as a compelling argument. I don’t for the following reasons:

1. How do the 3,700 people employed in the hunting industry, most of them for only the six months of the hunting season, manage to support over 88,000 families? That would mean that every person employed is supporting 23.7 families? Now where did they get that ridiculous statistic?
2. Tanzania has set aside 70 million acres to employ 3,700 people? That’s 19,000 acres for each employee. One wonders if this is appropriate land use planning in a country where some 60% of the population are living below the poverty line of $1.25 per person per day?

Global March for Lions
Look at this typical coverage of the canned hunting issue to see why the lamestream media has made itself irrelevant and why we all get our news off the Internet now.
A brief sound bite from the hunters, another from us, and that is it.
Viva the Internet which enabled us to mount a synchronised march in 62 cities without any help from lamestream media.

Absolutely agree Chris.
Talk about sitting on the fence... Just plain shallow?! No morals, no ethics, no passion.

I know Alan. People get up and run out of the room weeping when I give my canned hunting presentation. Yet how else do you get people to see through the lies put out by the hunting industry unless you show the ugly reality

Global March for Lions - LA wins best video
Must see short video of the march in LA. We loved the dog with the lion mane, the lion on a stretcher, Hollywood icon Tippi Hedren laying the first flower and the beautiful rendition of the classic song The Lion Sleeps Tonight.
Well done LA; we're proud of you.
