Presenting: my first magazine feature in China!

This was an 8-page article featuring several photos and stories about my multiple adventures in Detroit's famous abandoned buildings. The magazine is Photography Travel (摄影旅游) by publisher Fotomen.

Special thanks to +Ran Pan for writing the article (based on my first-hand accounts of exploring in Detroit) and for being a liaison with the magazine in China. Also, big thanks to photographer +Ed Serecky for coordinating entry to a few of the locations.

My photo work is impossible without the assistance and friendship of amazing people around the world!

10 years ago the Six Flags New Orleans theme park was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.

Many years later, the park's massive "Big Easy" Ferris wheel became the perfect spot – during an insanely hot June night – to photograph a brilliant cascade of star trails.

6,970 feet above sea level, in the high plains of New Mexico, is the place to be to see a dazzling array of bright stars in the night sky.

"Standing at the top of the rotting roller coaster, Chris Luckhardt leans perilously out over the edge, almost 100 feet above the ground. Skeletal tracks and beams plunge away into the gloom, part of the bones of the abandoned theme park that stretches out below. Fog hangs in the air around the explorer, and the mouldering wood is treacherous beneath his feet. Still, undeterred and with camera in hand, Luckhardt inclines that little bit further, determined to capture the perfect shot."

This metal sculpture – known as the "W'eel Turtle" – was "erected as a novelty" in 1982 by George Gottbreht (he owns Dale's Thrift Barn which is next door). The sculpture was welded together using more than 2,000 steel wheel rims. Gottbreht claims the sculpture is the world's largest man-made turtle. The head is reported to weigh more than a ton and can be moved up and down on a pivot.
