I'm learning the awesome model and topology tools in #Modo801 on a new WIP character that I'm modelling and rigging. I wrote a new post about using edge-sliding and falloff to fix the topology on this guy's mouth.

The tools in Modo are all so well integrated. It's a joy to work with.

Humans are meant to live visually, aurally, tactically, kinesthetically and spatially. And we are hunched over staring into our little rectangles of light and making little tap tap tappity motions.

Each Bret Victor talk is more illuminating than the last. In this talk he shows the effect that our notations, mediums and representations of thinking have on our lives and potential as a species.

This talk is great. Don't miss it!

A tech video showing a technique for driving soft tissue deformation using standard motion capture technology.

It makes a lot of sense. Instead of using the surface to drive a skeleton to drive a mesh surface, they drive the surface directly. I can imagine mixing both methods to get soft tissue AND an underlying skeleton.

Hands and feet seem to be a weak point for this technique.

Here is a simple but powerful Maya animation and rigging tip. Quickly isolate and select animation curves in the graph editor by selecting channels in the channel box. I totally missed this and did it the slow and painful way for years. #rigtip   #animtip

Another great talk by Bret Victor. The importance of powerful "seeing tools".

This is a fantastic read, comparing the quality of dictionaries and showing how a good dictionary can ignite your writing. Most modern dictionaries are bureaucratic and plain, stripping the life from words in order to be plain and functional.
