Been writing transcripts of interviews I've done today for an upcoming project.
Listening so closely to your own words, phrases and approaches to questioning is an emotional strain to say the least.
While writing I kept thinking back to one of the many interviews I've watched with writer Christopher Hitchens. Speaking to his students about the act of writing, Hitchens declared, "that anyone who can talk can write". This group of student writers, introverted and deeply critical such is typical for this craft, felt happy with this. Then, dashing this new found hope in the process Hitchens added the question, "Now, how many of you want to listen to someone in this room speak?".
A frightening thought.
