It seems like tick season is starting early this year. I found this little devil on our dog yesterday. I don't know much about ticks but this one looks to have had a meal already and there was a little bump where I removed her near Pixie's neck. Last weekend we were camping on Whidbey Island, WA, and since we've returned home we've only been on walks in the neighbourhood and Everett Crowley Park, so I'm not sure where she hitched a ride, but I'm glad I found the little wench!

Pixie is fine. She doesn't show any signs of anything different. We submitted the tick for analysis to see if it was carrying Lyme's. You can also test the dog but we didnt have the testing done. It all costs $$. Her bite location has not shown any signs of expansion or irritation either.

I don't often hang out with snakes, but when I do it's on the Delta dykes.
Inside the Burnaby offices of the Wildlife Rescue Association of B.C. there are several plastic blue tubs that are brimming with life. Slithering, hissing life. More than 400 snakes were delivered to the association this week after their hibernation den was disturbed by construction along the Boundary Bay Dyke in Delta.

Interesting thoughts on training dogs...
Years ago, when I began dog training, Manhattan was full of trained dogs.  After all, you had to ride in an elevator with your dog and sometimes he wasn't the only dog there.  You had to navigate s...

Just get out there are vote, but watch this funny video first!
Produced by a "cranky group of independent citizens fed up with sucky transit," the latest video in support of the Mayors' Council's Transportation and Transit Referendum admits transit in Vancouver sucks.

Don't want to get into a yelling match, but transit in Vancouver is - relatively speaking - pretty good. There are big ticket items that will improve things a lot, and some of these are part of the plan that folks are going to get a chance to vote on. Lots of people - a majority apparently - seem to agree that Translink isn't capable of managing the money properly. I'm confident that the scrutiny will be so great that the outcome will go according to plan. And transit will go from pretty good to much better as a result. Which is why i'm voting yes.

I saw the Great Blue Herons circling in the distance as I arrived at work this morning, and just now saw them come in for a landing in the colony trees. Such an amazing thing to witness so close to work!
