I don't often hang out with snakes, but when I do it's on the Delta dykes.
Inside the Burnaby offices of the Wildlife Rescue Association of B.C. there are several plastic blue tubs that are brimming with life. Slithering, hissing life. More than 400 snakes were delivered to the association this week after their hibernation den was disturbed by construction along the Boundary Bay Dyke in Delta.

Interesting thoughts on training dogs...
Years ago, when I began dog training, Manhattan was full of trained dogs.  After all, you had to ride in an elevator with your dog and sometimes he wasn't the only dog there.  You had to navigate s...

I'm shocked at the move by Oxford Junior Dictionary to remove an extensive list of words associated with nature. Then again, it's always good to have more than one reference to learn from...
In a sad sign of society's continuing estrangement from nature, the Oxford Junior Dictionary is banishing more than 90 nature words from its newest edition. (see full list of removed words). Children will no longer see the following words in their dictionary: Beaver, boar, cheetah, colt, cygnet, ...

This is a mayoral election platform... really?
A candidate for mayor in Burnaby is raising eyebrows with a promise to ban kissing and holding hands in public.

Because that sort of behavior is just a gateway to other things, like hugs, romantic dinners, dates. Better to nip it in the bud.

Great post about our local bobcat, often seen in the Burnaby Mountain - Eagle Creek - Burnaby Lake and Deer Lake green spaces of Burnaby.
We've got salmon returning to our creeks once again, the coyotes are still howling at the passing emergency vehicles, and for the past few months, we've had a bobcat active in Deer Lake Park. This ...

This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Once again, the Harper government is silencing people, birdwatchers, for voicing their concerns about the use of neonicotinoids and their impacts to bees and birds.
A small group of nature lovers in Kitchener-Waterloo Region in southern Ontario enjoy spending weekends watching birds and other wildlife, but lately they're the ones under watch — by the Canada Revenue Agency.
