WordPress Developer. Bible Teacher. Navigator.
Introduction
Techno Geek Aficionado for Web Savvy Marketing where I keep the technical side of things running for our rapidly growing WordPress development company.

My areas of responsibility include advanced website coding, overall coding quality assurance; theme audits; server setup, migrations and maintenance; training staff in best practices; managing customer support forums; creating marketing and training content; and other technical aspects required to keep a company moving forward.

Prior to joining the Web Savvy team I have been a life long professional navigator starting with ocean going cargo ships, then went on to US Navy jets. After changing careers from cargo operations in the maritime industry in 2007 I focused on creating easy to use WordPress websites and training folks, especially churches and ministries, how to use them to effectively attract more people.

In 2011 my wife and I moved to Colorado to attend a Bible college. Purposely Different is where I post thoughts and ideas on spiritual stuff. Check out the Purposely Different Podcast or subscribe in iTunes. In addition to my geeky side I am also an ordained minister.

I've got a guest post on Billy Epperhart's  website this morning. The good stuff we do for people on its own won't bring about the lasting change that's needed for them to thrive after we move on.

When we change from the inside out, we experience lasting change. Trying to force change from the outside in by controlling behavior often fades and is damaging.

I spoke at church today. Here's the message I presented.
How we think is important. Our thoughts produce our words. They become our actions and ultimately shape our destiny. Just think spiritually not carnally.

So much of Christianity fixates on behavior and wrongly tries to force change from the outside in. This mostly leads to harsh, critical, argumentative, judgmental people. I was like that. It wears you out because appearances are so hard to maintain. God's way is to change us from the inside out. When our hearts change, our actions will automatically change also. That's where peace and rest are found. And that's where our good actions become sustainable for a lifetime.
Focusing on good actions and external behavior misses God's best for our lives. Our impact will be far greater long term by helping hearts as well as hands.

Our world is sorely lacking wisdom. The Bible says wisdom is the principal thing and has much to say on its importance. Knowledge without understanding is dangerous. But when we begin to understand more about the information we know, then we're on the path to wisdom.
Get wisdom. It's the main thing. We need more wisdom, both in our lives and in our world. Add understanding to your knowledge and that will lead to wisdom.

Last Tuesday was so nice here I was feeling guilty 'cause I hadn't taken our snow tires off yet. Today I'm really glad I haven't! :)

It's taken several years, but my wife is finally starting to blog a little. She posted this morning on our ministry website about some steps we're taking on our eventual move to Scotland.
Things are starting to move forward as we begin to take steps towards Scotland. God is putting the pieces in place starting with another trip to the UK.

I once heard a talk by a survivor of Soviet imprisonment. He said there came a point when the Soviets stopped executing Christians because in his words, "they died weird." The way true believers died tended to make their executioners become believers too.

It may seem obvious, but to have friends you must first show yourself friendly. In addition to publishing great content it takes effort to build an audience for your site. There's good wisdom in this article about how to go about doing that.
My number one frustration as a writer & blogger used to be building a platform. I knew I was a good writer, but I never felt like my audience was growing. I would read Jeff Goins' blog posts ab...

Today we celebrate the event that changed history for all mankind. Friday was good because Jesus paid the price we never could for all the wrong junk we think, feel, and do. That payment cost him his very life and he was buried in a stone tomb after he died.

But Sunday everything changed. That morning about 2,000 years ago Jesus rose again from the dead, defeating death decisively. He came out of the tomb and lives that we may now experience his life ourselves. Because of what happened that morning we can now experience peace with God, yes, even the very peace of God is available to us through Jesus. That is something worth celebrating!

The Bible says, "If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." (Romans 10:9) It truly is that simple. Those two things may seem small, but they make a world of difference in your life.
