My team at Google has been very big proponents and innovators of USB Type-C. I've worked on two Pixel products now that use the connector and its related technologies (Power Delivery, Alternate Mode, USB 3.1). It really is an amazing little connector.

However, now that there are more and more Type C products rolling out from Nexus, One+, Nokia, and more, this I have found painfully true : USB Type-C will only be as good as its ecosystem, and more specifically, the worst of its ecosystem.

I have started reviewing USB cables on Amazon because I have gotten fed up with the early cables from 3rd party vendors that so blatantly flaunt the specification and I want to hold them to task.

You may not just get weird behavior from your devices with these bad cables... What some these vendors are doing is downright dangerous.

I've been contemplating setting up a blog where I document bad cables and perhaps give some insights into USB Type C as well.

Red Dwarf XI & XII
Yesterday I spent the day with a lovely bunch of old blokes.
I first met them in 1989, which is a mere 26 years ago and we went into deep space in the Jupiter Mining Vessel Red Dwarf.
As of next month we go back into deep space for 5 months to make 2 new series of this classic, iconic, very long running sci-fi-sit-com.
It was Danny's idea to swap the name tags, we like to keep him happy.

Just finished reading The Martian by Andy Weir. Great book, looking forward to seeing how it's portrayed in the movie.

An animation that combines various observations of Pluto over the course of several decades.

The first frame is a digital zoom-in on Pluto as it appeared upon its discovery by Clyde Tombaugh in 1930 (image courtesy Lowell Observatory Archives). The other images show various views of Pluto as seen by NASA's Hubble Space Telescope beginning in the 1990s and NASA's New Horizons spacecraft in 2015. The final sequence zooms in to a close-up frame of Pluto released on July 15, 2015.
