A simple test of understanding, to avoid wasting time.
I have a simple test for people, to determine whether or not they actually understand enough about the issue of "Climate change" to have an informed position on it, or whether it's just a question of ingroup identification for them. I.e. whether they actual...

Someone Tried to Start a War Tonight in Dallas...
So there's what's right... and there's what's smart. Someone tried to start a war in Dallas tonight... and I GUARANTEE you, that police around the country are going to react. Reports are that 10 cops were shot... by at least two people with rifles... and at...

"But there MUST be SOMETHING we can do? We HAVE to do SOMETHING!!!"
The core belief behind those who truly and honestly believe in, and support gun control, as a public safety measure; is the notion that there MUST be SOMETHING that we, collectively, as a society, acting through the state, can do, to stop people from doing ...

Sadly, the notion that it's much easier not to do something stupid than to do something smart is obvious only in hindsight.

Not the best... not the brightest... just the ones who showed up...
So, are these presidential candidates the best that America can do? No, of course not... These are just the "best" that were actually stupid or crazy or narcissistic or power hungry enough to want the job, and then put up with the process of getting it. The...

The early 2016 gaming sweetspot?
So, theoretically AMD is "getting serious about desktop gaming CPUs again"... which is hilarious to me, since they haven't BEEN serious about any kind of desktop or consumer performance for 10 years now. But it got me thinking about the current state of des...

Remington, reliability, and the R51
I thought I'd write a bit about the Remington R51, because a lot of friends really like the look of it (and the original Remington model 51 it was based on) when they brought it out a few years ago, and they were very disappointed when it proved so unreliab...

For a brand new gun, that hasn't been broken in, and has magazines of dubious quality, 1 in 200 is generally very good. Single failures could be because of anything, including operator error or ammunition issues.

"Too bad about that common sense theory though..."
"But if more people have more guns, then they'll shoot more people, in fights, or by accident... it's just common sense"... Great theory... common sense etc... except it's entirely incorrect... The peak of violent crime in the country was the mid to late 90...

Cleaner, hotter, blacker, better... Charcoal
Humans have been making... and cooking with... charcoal for thousands of years. It was literally our first processed fuel technology, making a much hotter, cleaner, and more manageable fire than wood, with MUCH lighter and easier to pack fuel. ...In fact, c...

Who "Spoons" A Fuck?
"I'm all out of spoons"... Yaknow... if it works for you, great... but I hate the spoon thing... Yes, the concept makes sense once you explain it... but using spoons for it is just arbitrary and silly... there's no logical or metaphorical connection. It has...

The random mumblings of a muscular minarchist
Introduction
I am a cynically romantic optimistic pessimist. I'm neither liberal, nor conservative; I'm a muscular minarchist.

Basically, what that means is; I believe that all things being equal, responsible adults should be able to do what they want providing nobody's getting hurt who isn't payin extra (or asking nicely).
