I'm stumped with a Google Maps issue and wondering if anyone has had any previous experience.

The maps listing of a client has stopped showing for branded searches, though it can still be found if I include the brand and just part of the address. So far I have tried:

- Adding rel="publisher"
- Adding organisational schema
- Changing the URL of the listing to the homepage (was previously the contacts page)
- Editing the description and categories of the listing

It's had a couple of days to settle but still no change and the client is getting anxious. The disappearance coincides with the client giving access to a social media marketing and PPC agency, but I can't think of anything they could do to cause this to happen.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

This PPC ad from Samsung made the homepage of Reddit today: http://www.reddit.com/r/funny/comments/345hrk/nice_try_samsung/

Great example of how a creative ad can drive earned media and organic visibility.

Personalisation and CTR could have a big impact on rankings, but when it comes to content, most people seem to focus on links.

This article reviews some of the evidence.
Content could increase rankings, even without links

Personalisation affects rankings, and there is strong evidence that click through rate does too. Content can play a role in influencing both of these, and yet there is still a fixation on links.

One of the most common challenges I face with clients is the pigeonholing of SEO into a narrow set of tasks, but the evidence suggest we should be thinking bigger when it comes to content than just looking at links.

Share Your Setup?

I've been very conscious recently of the potential for chronic injury from desk work (I have terrible posture and my mouse hand is regularly stiff). Anyone got any opinions on the some of the best hardware for the job? Seats, screens keyboards, mice or anything else.

Since surfing the internet is my livelihood I'm willing to spend a bit of money on getting the right equipment.

Photos welcome.

Recommend a Developer

Can anyone recommend a reliable developer for a WordPress/WooCommerce project that will involve database migration from Joomla/Virtumart. Will be using Theme Forest template. Obviously looking to keep it low cost (isn't everyone). Emphasis on reliable though.

Example of Rel="Prev/next" in the Wild

Can anyone point me in the direction of some large sites using Rel="Prev/Next". I'm talking  to a client about the best option for their case of pagination and need some examples to illustrate a point and better understand how Google treats these pages.

Thanks,

Questionable Results

So there is a small attempt at a campaign on Facebook to remove the highlighted content shown in the result shown below. This is for Google UK:

https://www.google.co.uk/#q=vaccine+chemicals

They are asking people to go to the feedback button below the highlighted section.

For the sake of learning and just curious discussion, my questions are:

1 - Will this actually have any impact and will Google review this result?

2 - Do you think this could backfire and they might just promote the search "Vaccine Chemicals" in auto suggest.

3 - Does Google have any other process for dealing with these?

4 - The SEO in me was also curious whether optimising the Wikipedia page to include a section on "Vaccine Chemicals" would work to replace this.

Opinions Wanted on E-Commerce CMS

I had a look through the old posts, but couldn't find anything on this. I have a client using Joomla, running Virtumart for ecommerce. The install is riddled with bugs, and between you and me, I don't like Joomla.

They have several hundred products. My first thought was a move to Magento, but I'm aware this also has it's problems (not to mention the small nightmare of a site migration).

I'm interested to hear what people think. What are some good options? The client at this stage is looking to take their web business "to the next level". Whatever we install, it's likely we will be running a separate WordPress install alongside it for the blog.

Or should I just stick with Joomla / Virtuemart and try and patch it up?

Thanks in advance.

When Choosing an SEM...

The other day we posted a picture of +Chris Butterworth in our Melbourne Office (http://goo.gl/lwfpnt). Well, the guys in the Content Team couldn't leave it at that. Look what they came up with.

I can't improve on +John Mueller's explanation below, so I wont.
