The main exhibition space at Eastside Projects is a very versatile one – past exhibitions have shown that. From Bill Drummond’s The 25 Paintings to Susan Philipsz’s Broken Ensemble to the more recent Birmingham Show, the space has been moulded and moved around, reconfigured with installations, busy one day and austere the next. I’ve never …

The House of Mask is back in Birmingham next week.
Cubanisto returns to Birmingham this month with its (perhaps not-so) secret party, House of Mask. Sneaking its way into The Institute on 29th May, house music heroes, Prok & Fitch headline the night with their alluring and unadulterated sound which has seen them entertain crowds worldwide for almost a decade. As well as the music, …

Yes, it’s not even June and we’re going to start talking about Christmas, well sort of. There’s a new panto on the block this December as the world’s biggest pantomime (and yes that is a bold statement) slips on its best glass slippers and heads to the Barclaycard Arena. If you couldn’t tell from the …

A question that many of us have asked – How can Birmingham shout louder about culture? As a city we’re often known for being self-deprecating, not shouting about our successes and what we have on offer. There are a number of organisations out there who have tried to correct this with some or little success, …

This month sees the launch of two new exhibitions at Eastside Projects in Digbeth, Birmingham Show and Velum. Birmingham Show is an ambitious large-scale group exhibition that poses three important questions about the arts in Birmingham: ‘what is the art of Birmingham?’, ‘is there an accent to Birmingham’s art?’, and ‘how is Birmingham useful for …
