Made a quick comparison of Android's notification redesign from N to O.

Ongoing Notification: N
• Not visually distinguished
• Doesn't always appear at the top of the drawer
• Inconsistent customization.

Ongoing Notification: O
• Rich color pulled from the app
• Systemized typography and iconography
• Always appears at the top

+--+

Media Notification: N
• Feels generic
• Differs most from other templates, but looks the same

Media Notification: O
• Designed to showcase the album artwork
• Color extracted background and controls

+--+

People Notification: N
• One line snippet of the message is insufficient
• Reply from the drawer

People Notification: O
• Read more without expanding
• Will be topmost section in the drawer most of the time

+--+

Extra Notification: N
• Visually equal to any other notification
• Heavyweight presentation for lightweight content

Extra Notification: O
• Lightweight for users = low risk for developers
• Functionality remains (full color and actions on expansion)

+--+

You got to hand it to Google: the attention to detail and obsession over UI/UX is admiring. This is one area where Google continues to excel at over everyone else.

Between this and Movado's new watch, I'm kinda excited. Good to see traditional watch makers getting into the smartwatch game finally.

We've been sitting on what we believed were Pixel 2017 codenames for a while, but now that one of them showed up in AOSP's gerrit, it's time to reveal them to the world.
