She's a smart girl. I admire her free thinking and independence.
The best thing about not being a "screenager" is that I don't have an online persona to keep up.

A lovely film based on the 1996 intimacy experiment proposed by Dr Arthur Aron. Can two strangers fall in love? It's a fascinating idea.

One of the best things about travel is getting to visit some of the most amazing schools in the world. Here's a few photos from the Mulgrave school in Vancouver Canada, where I had the pleasure of visiting last week thanks to +Brad Ovenell-Carter. It's a beautiful, inspiring, innovative space with some brilliant ideas in its design. Truly an environment built for learning.

The recent changes to the new Google EDU Learning Center has also changed the certifications that are available to educators. There are big changes to the terminology of the certifications for Educators, Trainers and GCTs.

You can find an excellent and accurate summary of the changes on this page... https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1214nJCr99TRzNCTFZDSjNydTg/view?usp=sharing

What's the effect on children raised by same sex couples versus heterosexual couples. Here's an academic piece that looks at the question using actual research instead of opinion... The verdict? There is no appreciable difference, and in some respects they rate even more positively.
Liberal senator Cory Bernardi, a vocal opponent of same-sex marriage, has said that "the very best thing" for the development of a child is to have a mum and a dad. What does the research say?

One of the best ways to keep up with what's happening in the Google Education world is to listen to the Google Educast each week.

Here's the latest episode!
Juan is our Ahab on this week’s Google Educast as we dive deep into the exciting news from Google at ISTE, particularly the Google Classroom API which will allow other educational sites to work well with Classroom. Additional...

It's both exciting and humbling to have been part of the team that wrote and contributed content for the new #googleEDU Training Center. While it's nice to be able to look through the site and actually see stuff that I wrote in there, the really awesome part is to have had the chance to work with +Jay Atwood and the incredible team of talented educators he assembled to work on this project as partners of Google EDU. It was both exciting and stressful getting it all together as we managed some tight deadlines (especially for Jay!) but the end result is absolutely brilliant.

If you have not yet seen the site at https://edutrainingcenter.withgoogle.com,  it's really worth a look. It has a neat and clean look thanks to Material Design principles, is well structured, has tons of fabulous content, manages your progress as you accrue PD hours, and it will support teachers to do more than just learn to use the tools... it will actually support them to be better educators.

Ok, I admit, I was a little sceptical at first about the need for a wedding planner. I mean, with the internet these days can't you just make all the arrangements yourself? Uh, no. I mean you could try, but honestly, it's really worth getting someone with local knowledge, who can connect you with the right people and services, and who knows the ins and outs of putting a wedding together on the island. Lori and Jamie were fantastic from the moment we engaged their services. They met with us on Skype, talked through what we wanted, and made it happen. They connected us with local celebrants, musicians, photographers and florists, offering us choices and helping us pick the right ones for what we wanted. They really made a big difference in being able to smoothly pull together a destination wedding. On the day, their local knowledge meant we got the right part of the beach, out of the wind and accounting for the tide, and they was super helpful the whole way. I'm not planning on ever needing the services of a wedding planner again (!) but for anyone that needs one for a Maui wedding, I can highly recommend Lori and Jamie for helping you pull one together with as little fuss as possible.

Our new favourite sushi place. Simple and unpretentious, but delicious food. Always fresh and tasty, and well made. Big fan of the Crunch Roll, but really, everything we get from here is good.

Great Indian food. Always delicious and hot, we get takeaway from here quite a bit and the food is consistently excellent. The butter chicken is amazing, as are most of their curries. The ambience of the eat-in experience is pretty ordinary, but the food is great.

The food in the bistro is Ok but the prices are quite ridiculous for a club dining experience. I used to eat here quite a bit a few years ago when the prices were reasonable but hardly visit at all any more... I simply don't want to pay good restaurant prices for an average bistro dining experience. Servings are not large and the food is very average.

We eat here a fair bit (both eat in and take away ) and the food is always good. Fresh, hot, tasty. Prices are reasonable, service is friendly and fast, and the food is delicious. The decor is quite nice too.

Meh. It's a McDonalds, right? So you should get the same consistent, predictable service and food that you get at every McDonalds. Except you don't. This one feels seedy and slummy, the service is consistently average at best. Every time I go there the local police are in there picking up food, which I find strange on a number of levels. Overall, just a really ordinary Maccas. If you really feel you want some Maccas, I'd drive down to the nearby Padstow store as its cleaner, better staffed and always feels like a nicer experience. Which is weird considering McDonalds shouldn't really matter where you go, it should be basically the same.
