My favorite feature of JVM-based language Kotlin: null is a first-class citizen. It has the most elegant solution over other JVM-based languages that I've seen (READ: Scala which requires you to wrap objects in an Option). Seems to be the right first step towards fixing the billion dollar (and counting) mistake.

Thanks for the write-up +Jake Wharton, really good stuff.

Awesome Window flag discovery: set the FLAG_SECURE flag on the Activity's Window to prevent screenshots from being taken.

I've been seeing some great turnaround with poor reviews from users on Google Play simply by responding to users and addressing issues they report. Granted, I don't have thousands of users on my app but crafting an individualized response shows that you care about bringing a good experience to everyone.

Awesome tips to make Android development easier. I esp. like maven central search capabilities in the project structure dependencies tab.
Always pick up lots of dev tool tips from +Tor Norbye's sessions:

– Use the Android project structure for a simpler organization of your project and nice groupings  of resources e.g. seeing the different versions of dimens.xml for different resource qualifiers
– The Project Structure > Dependencies tab can search Maven Central for libs and add them to your build file.
– The layout editor lets you preview in RTL and offers a super easy Add RTL refactor to scan your whole project and fix RTL issues.
– The layout editor lets you set that you prefer the XML view
– The create emulator wizard now shows system images available to download with a handy link
– Use the new android.support.annotations.* to guard your int parameters e.g. use @LayoutRes to mark that an int param should be a layout resource id.  See https://developer.android.com/reference/android/support/annotation/IntDef.html for a good example of declaring your own acceptable values.

Good stuff.  #AndroidDev   #devoxx14
