"In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat; it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort." <- one of the best openings in fiction. These are photos of a beautiful new hardcover edition with 150 color illustrations that I bought for my youngest son for when we start to read it soon (as soon as we finish The Last Battle in the Narnia series).

To all the mothers out there, Happy Mother's Day!  Here is one of my favorite quotes about mothers:

"The most important person on earth is a mother. She cannot claim the honor of having built Notre Dame Cathedral. She need not. She has built something more magnificent than any cathedral -- a dwelling for an immortal soul, the tiny perfection of her baby's body...The angels have not been blessed with such a grace. They cannot share in God's creative miracle to bring new saints to Heaven. Only a human mother can. Mothers are closer to God the Creator than any other creature; God joins forces with mothers in performing this act of creation... What on God's good earth is more glorious than this: to be a mother?"

-- Joseph Cardinal Mindszenty, Catholic Archbishop of Hungary, a very interesting figure.  Excerpt from Wikipedia: "For five decades, he personified uncompromising opposition to fascism and communism in Hungary in support of religious freedom.  During World War II, he was imprisoned by the pro-Nazi authorities. After the war, he opposed communism and the communist persecution in his country. As a result, he was tortured and given a life sentence in a 1949 show trial that generated worldwide condemnation, including a United Nations resolution. After eight years in prison, he was freed in the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 and granted political asylum by the United States embassy in Budapest, where Mindszenty lived for the next fifteen years."

My mom passed away over twenty years ago, but for some reason I have been thinking a lot about her lately.

By the time a man realizes that maybe his father was right, he usually has a son who thinks he’s wrong.

Do you love sporting those "Coexist" bumper stickers on your car? Fist pump at "tolerance" and "diversity" and how we should all get along?

Prove it. Put your money where your mouth is and help out folks who are being driven from their homes and running for their lives, all because they're Christian.

... Or, you know, you can go back to cracking jokes about how we're all better off for having less folks on the planet who believe in a God who you jokingly compare to a Flying Spaghetti Monster. Because you're too much of a wuss to make the same insult about Allah.

Oh, yes, I'm quite angry about all this. What gave it away?

I'm testing out this new Dropbox-like service.  They give you 15GB for free and the desktop client works on Windows, Mac, and Linux.  They also have apps for iOS and Android.  They also do the referral bonus thingy for 5GB additional space so if you want to try out the service, use the link below and we'll each get 5GB extra space for a total of 20GB.
Copy is a cloud for people, friends, and companies. Use it to keep your computers in sync and your files available from anywhere and from any device. Sign up and get 15 GB FREE.

No, not entirely.  I'm lazy, and it's easy to use something like dropbox or copy.com.
