I was interviewed about my time in the cast of improvised Trek parody "Where No Man Has Gone Before" - hard to believe we've been on these missions over 3 years running!

4 shows this weekend; one weekend only, and tickets are over half gone. Buy now - we open tomorrow night! http://bit.ly/WhereNoKHAN

I was recently profiled by the LinkedIn Connect Professional Women's Network for their "Get Connected" video series. Watch to see me talk about my career, work/life balance, and my work with IGNITE. :)
You know those moments when you're so frustrated with technology that you just want to break something? Cheryl Platz is the person working to make sure that doesn't happen with Microsoft's products. A...

Come join us - running for three more weekends! I'm starring as "Louise" in this production. :)
Description. Microsoft Theater Troupe's “The Underpants”, written by Carl Sternhein and adapted by Steve Martin, is a hilarious take on what happens with unfortunate timing and spare bedrooms. Lou...

Photos from Friday's Seattle Festival of Improv Theatre performances! I'm reprising my role as the Alien Female in "Where No Man Has Gone Before" (http://facebook.com/WhereNoMan), our Star Trek parody improv show. Thanks for sharing these photos, Dikla!

This particular photo cracks me up - Kirk is being SO HELPFUL.

That's my husband (David Foubert) they're talking about in the New York Times!
Shakespeare’s “Henry VIII” chronicles Henry’s first divorce and remarriage, featuring no bloodshed but a coronation, two trials, an offstage execution, a royal christening and plenty of intrigue.

Here's my latest article for the Huffington Post, about Washington State's history of STEM advocacy and recent signs of progress.
Things worth doing are rarely easy, and the step to theoretical work from small programming projects can be a large one. And particularly for women, retention in computer science and other STEM subjects is a real problem during the college years.

Always wondered what it is I do? The Huffington Post published an essay I wrote to introduce outsiders to the field. Please read and share! http://www.huffingtonpost.com/cheryl-platz/what-is-ux-design_b_2831908.html

Unemployment in America is currently 8%. Unemployment for engineers in America? 5%. Unemployment for engineers in Pittsburgh? Lower still (one estimate I read was <2%). Average entry pay for an engineer is $55k, out of college. Senior-level pay - 7+ years in - can easily be over $100k. So, the pay's great, and the unemployment is low, even in your first year out of college.

1-in-20 Americans in the workforce are scientists and engineers, and that number was steadily growing up through 2000. But the number has remained flat since 2000; not enough students are going into these disciplines to meet the need, and the extra jobs are going overseas, as that's where the jobs can be filled. To make it even more pressing, a huge number of engineers are 55+ years old; they're about to retire.

Encourage your kids to take some math, to leave their options open. These are really interesting, really important jobs, and we need to train our kids to fill 'em. They're also not impossibly hard jobs to get; it's four years of college and you can enter the workforce.
