Most of my more advanced musical training was in classical percussion, which covers several. Although, I didn't find any of those particularly difficult to play, some have surprising depth, such as the tambourine and frame drums generally. Keyboard percussion such as marimbas, vibes, etc. are quite challenging, but I don't consider them "ancient," as they are chromatically tuned.
I like simple instruments. Strike the drum, press the piano key, the sound happens. I do not agree very well with things with strings and frets, things that must be blown into a certain way, and so forth. Though I do play a little guitar.
