I had a fun lunch with my daughter and a friend at Counter Culture. We had the Oyster Mushroom Po'Boy and the Tempeh Reuben sandwich. My daughter loved the collard greens, especially after our kind waiter brought her some sriracha sauce. She was also very interested in the old jukebox there. For dessert, I had a wonderful vegan strawberry shortcake and my friend had some donut holes. I appreciate that the desserts are not overly sweet and are made with fresh ingredients. I will have to come back another time to try more items!

Looking for something different, beautiful and worthy of becoming an heirloom? The Juniper Tree is a wonderful store full of wooden toys, cloth dolls, enlightening books, natural fiber yarns, quality German art supplies and much more. The lovely ladies running that store are very helpful and knowledgeable. There are always new things arriving to help you celebrate festivals, holidays and the changing of the seasons. You can set up a birthday wishlist for yourself or child.

I read online that Conans had decent vegan pizza. It's too bad that we went to this location. We were one of 2 families in the very dated restaurant. The other family was having the buffet and they were waiting almost 45 minutes for a pizza to come out. We ordered a vegan pizza and waited just as long. A lot of the staff was just walking around. The very loud TV was on a terrible channel playing something like a Dumbest People/Stunts in America type show and felt bad subjecting my child to such idiocy. Since I haven't had a Pizza Hut style pizza in over 15 years, I guess my taste buds just have changed. The option to have Daiya cheese was not enough to make up for a super greasy pizza with too many pickled jalapenos.

I enjoy the garden salad very much...especially those sunflower sprouts and cashew tamari dressing. We also feel lucky when we get to sit in the garden room near the fountain and also get to hear the amazing harp player who is there from time to time.

This is a lively place to eat Indian food. The servers are very friendly and you get to sit under giant canopies, have candles at your table and see the occasional kitty stopping by. You would not expect this going to most trailer eateries. I've seen whole families with grandparents from out of town really enjoying themselves. One item they have here that I really like is the fruit and nut stuffed paratha. If you are vegan, you need to tell them so they make your food with sesame oil instead of ghee. They have lots of different dishes to satisfy your entire dinner party.

My favorite dish here is the Bi Bim Bap with their kochuchang sauce. All of the veggies are super fresh and cut nicely using a mandoline. I have brought many friends here for a casual lunch and everyone has really enjoyed their meal. The only downside is trying to find parking.

The store is very open and it's easy to look around for what you might need. They have a great selection of Cascade 220 if you need a basic wool yarn for felting projects. The Knitting Nest also offers classes. They encourage Austin's community of fiber arts to participate in charity drives and donations to worthy organizations.
