The CEO class read '1984' back in high school and all said, I want that!

Wearable health trackers. Activity-tracking devices made by companies like Fitbit, Jawbone and Misfit are increasingly popular gadget purchases, but they're also making their way into the workplace: research firm Gartner estimates that 10000 companies offered activity-trackers to staff in 2014.

“I do not consider the goals of the pharmaceutical companies to be educating people about pharmaceuticals,” he says. Still, he says, “Medtronic has been the worst company that I have encountered with respect to aggressively editing Wikipedia to promote their products.”

The beginning of the end for Wikipedia. And it's about time, as its quality has continued sinking into the muck. // "Can the site's dwindling ranks of volunteer editors protect its articles from the influence of money?" //

Who would have thunk it, eh?
Across all 50 states and the District of Columbia, homicides of police officers are linked to the statewide level of gun ownership, according to a new study. The study found that police officers serving in states with high private gun ownership are more than three times more likely to be killed on the job than those on the job in states with the lowest gun ownership.

You are not alone, and you are way behind, and it’s getting harder and harder to build the skills and networks necessary to compete, and more and more money is chasing fewer and fewer capable entrepreneurs.
I did win at angel investing. Barely, and I did it with a ton of advantages you probably don't have. And even I'm getting out, because I know so much of my success was luck.

...Trump nonetheless has an investment record that at best roughly matches and at worst underperforms the market. He did only as well or possibly worse than a retiree with a Vanguard 401(k) did.

The story of how Kodak invented the digital camera and then acted as if they hoped it would go away.

Steven Sasson (pictured below in 1973, the year he started to work for Kodak) invented digital photography soon afterwards. Kodak patented the first digital camera ... in 1978. It was called the electronic still camera. But Mr. Sasson was not allowed to publicly talk about it or show his prototype to anyone outside Kodak.

In 1989, Mr. Sasson and a colleague, Robert Hills, created the first modern digital single-lens reflex (S.L.R.) camera that looks and functions like today’s professional models. It had a 1.2 megapixel sensor, and used image compression and memory cards.

But Kodak’s marketing department was not interested in it. Mr. Sasson was told they could sell the camera, but wouldn’t — because it would eat away at the company’s film sales.

“When we built that camera, the argument was over,” Mr. Sasson said. “It was just a matter of time, and yet Kodak didn’t really embrace any of it. That camera never saw the light of day.”

Still, until it expired in the United States in 2007, the digital camera patent helped earn billions for Kodak. ... Though Kodak did eventually market both professional and consumer cameras, it did not fully embrace digital photography until it was too late.

“Every digital camera that was sold took away from a film camera and we knew how much money we made on film,” Mr. Sasson said. “That was the argument. Of course, the problem is pretty soon you won’t be able to sell film — and that was my position.”

In 1975, 26-year old Kodak engineer Steve Sasson presented his prototype digital camera to the company’s technical, marketing and business development departments. The latter two hated it.
