I'm having endovascular brain surgery on May 16th, due to a sizable aneurysm in an artery connecting to my brain. This is what is going on in my life right now. Tomorrow, I start some tests in preparation for my surgery and a few more in the next coming weeks. This is the exact scenario to what my mother had, but preventative so the aneurysm doesn't rupture.

In these last few months, I've seen God's caring hand over my family especially in my mom's life. I am thankful that something can be done, even though it's still a difficult situation.

Starting off the new year by featuring nine awesome #OutdoorFamilies, who you should be following on Instagram. Thanks to the power of social media, I have been able to find lots of families, in particular diverse families like mine, who are hitting the trail. When you surround yourself with like-minded people, who understand your cultural and family dynamics, it's encouraging and makes getting outdoors easier.

This is also the first part of two-part blog series with Raising Kids Wild, who will be featuring even more families getting outdoors.

The 1,000 year old sequoia tree, known as the Pioneer Cabin Tree at Calaveras Big Tree State Park fell down in an atmospheric river on January 7, 2017. But what has amazed me has been all the social media sadness about a tree falling down, but I think understand why.

Fall is here and winter is knocking at the door, but Andrew Molera California State Parks is still a glorious place to hike to the beach. Creek crossings and even some barefoot hiking is well worth this family-friendly hike to the Pacific Ocean. Read more about it on the blog!
