“We're taught that in a democracy power comes from being elected.” But “Robert Moses wasn't elected to anything”&“he had more power than anyone, and he held it for 48 years.” ~ Robert Caro in The Power Broker.

On MSNBC’s “Up with Steve Kornacki” this morning, Hoboken, N.J. mayor Dawn Zimmer offered an extraordinary account of her dealings with the administration of Governor Chris Christie concerning federal Hurricane Sandy relief aid. Journalist, Online Instigator
Introduction
I'm the managing director and chief online instigator at NOWCastSA.com, a nonprofit news site in San Antonio. I'm also a partner in WilCharMedia.

I wrote my first news story on a manual typewriter because I didn't have enough seniority to use one of the electric ones in the newsroom. My awards ifrom newspaper writing include being named a finalist for a Pulitzer Prize in Public Service Journalism

My reporting on the financial background of George W. Bush was cited by Columbia Journalism Review and by my friend Molly Ivins in her book, Shrub: The Short but Happy Political Life of George W. Bush.

I went to the  web in 1999, and became managing editor for TheStreet.com. I was Content Director for MySanAntonio.com when it was named Best in Texas.

From 2006 to 2008 I taught online journalism and web publishing and design at University of Nevada, Las Vegas. I managed the Knight News Challenge Innovation Incubator project with 35 students from seven universities.

In 2009, through our company, WilCharMedia, I and my husband were the first editors of Building 43, a project sponsored by Rackspace Hosting, and anchored by Robert Scoble.
