More like a spa experience than a hygiene appointment. I saw Francis who offered me a complementary paraffin hand wax and a warm neck pillow...needless to say I was more comfortable than I ever have been during a dental appointment. Squeaky clean teeth never felt so good! I really appreciated the in-the-mouth video camera they used too. For the first time I was able to see exactly what the hygienist saw, treatment I received was explained clearly, and I felt confident about my oral health when leaving. I am converted!

I loved my experience at Charles River Dental. They made me realize that dental/medical visits can be actually be enjoyable! The staff is incredibly friendly, they always see me on time and they've taken incredible care of my teeth. Since visiting CRD, I've learned more about what goes on in my mouth than I've known my entire life. The hygiene team and doctors not only treat your problems - but educate you how to prevent future problems on a level that's incomparable. I enjoy the little luxuries CRD offers, from the hand treatments to the headphones. I even had a root canal procedure that was so easy and strangely, relaxing, that I was shocked - I thought that it was going to be extremely painful...I didn't notice a thing. If you are looking for a dentist in Boston - they are simply the best. After experiencing how CRD does it, I honestly can't imagine going anywhere else. Thank you for everything!!

After moving into the city back in 2002, I needed to find a new dentist. I knew I needed a few things done, but like most people I put it off... I mean who wants to go to the dentist? I was referred to Dr. Sivers by a good friend of mine. Her quote... "I love my dentist". So I made an appointment. I was surprised to discover that going to the dentist could be such a pleasant experience. During my initial examination, Dr. Sivers graciously answered all my questions and came up with a plan to get me back on track. During subsequent visits Dr. Sivers, Dr. Melcer and the rest of the staff took great care of me. Even now, I look forward to my 6 month checkups where I’m sure to interact with the friendly staff. If you are one who only looks for the lowest price, CRD is not the place for you. Like most things in life, you get what you pay for. As someone who has run their own business, I have an appreciation for attention to detail and Charles River Dental’s is second to none. I’m thankful to have found them, not to mention all the compliments I’ve gotten on my smile

What I've seen at Charles River Dental (CRD) is amazing. The staff greets you with a warm smile each and every time you come in for an appointment. The extras are varied and delightful. There are always fresh imaginative flower arrangements for you to enjoy while you wait. Although the wait is always very short, they have fresh clean water with refreshing fruit floating in it. Not sweet but just enough to make it refreshing. I could go on and on but let’s talk about the dental care... One gets the feeling of a team approach. Even if you are not seeing a dentist you might pass in the hall someone is there to introduce you. For my part I was there for a complete set of new dentures. Dr. Pamela Muniz is the prosthodontist with CRD. She is not only lovely to look at but a wonderful person to deal with. She is kind, gentle and very caring. Kissy , her assistant for my care, was just a kind and caring. Offering to turn the air up or down the minute she thinks you might want it. Not only that but if you're cold she will suggest a heated blanket. I was given a tube of beeswax chap stick to help for my process. You get the feeling you're part of the family and your comfort is very important to them. I love “CRD” and recommend it most highly.

I had a great experience!! It is a really clean and professional space. All of my questions were answered and everyone was really nice.. but not in an annoying bubbly type way. Thing to know: When you are having a cleaning, if they forget to ask, ask them about their extra treatments, such as a paraffin hand wax!!! I will definitely be going back!

I've been lucky enough to be a patient of Dr. Mark Sivers for 17 years now. I can honestly say that in all that time I have never received anything but impeccable and thorough dental care, the operative word being care. Over the past 17 years I have received not only routine dental cleanings and exams but I've undergone several complicated root canals, and numerous restorative procedures. It is worth noting that I am an extremely anxious patient when it comes to sitting in the dentists chair and I also have significantly sensitive teeth. Despite those limitations, Dr. Sivers has always been able to allay my fears through his calm, genuinely caring, unhurried nature, his incredible patience, kindness and willingness to thoroughly educate his patients about their dental health. If you are looking for not only superior dental care, but prefer a dentist who truly cares about you as a person, look no further. In keeping with Dr. Sivers quality of patient care standards, I can also highly recommend Lauren Carlsen, dental hygienist @ Charles River Dental. They don't come any sweeter or any gentler.

Thank you for the amazing review, Sheri! It has truly been an honor to serve you and to get to know you over the years. We recognize that many people are extremely nervous about going to the dentist and we want to not only treat those people's dental needs, but alleviate their fears as well. Thank you for sharing your story, as we hope it will help more people realize the dentist CAN be a positive experience!

My experience with Charles River Dental was life changing. I've decided to share my TN (trigeminal neuralgia) story, not because I believe it will be well received, but because I truly have a desire to help as many people as possible. I found permanent relief (without meds) from this illness 8 years ago, and while the procedure that "saved" my life likely can't help everyone, I'm certain it can help some. After my healing (technically in remission), I didn't want anything more to do with TN! That monster had already stolen too many years of my life. But after my sister recently attempted suicide (diagnosed with occipital neuralgia), I felt compelled to reach out to others. My pain appeared out of the blue at age 30... sudden, severe and chronic. My GP immediately ordered an MRI = nothing. Then a neurologist diagnosed "cluster headaches" and prescribed pain meds. This only masked a problem I was certain could be fixed, so I kept searching. Then an ENT specialist, dentist and endodontist = nothing. Then a naturalist and a chiropractor = nothing. My chiropractor suggested a TMJ specialist. I felt good about that and made an appointment with the "best of the best" in Boston. After one year, several TMJ appliances and $10K = nothing. Then a maxilla facial surgeon = nothing. I resorted to pain management by way of occupational/ultrasound therapy. Ultrasound therapy brought more relief than anything I had tried before, giving me a whopping 2 days of relief! However, even then I wasn't totally pain free. I began to hit the point where I wanted to give up on life; I'd been in severe pain for 4 years! Then a close friend of mine, a dentist, offered to work with me. I only agreed because I felt obligated. My teeth were fine... and what could a dentist do that a neurologist couldn't?? Because of his concern and compassion toward me as a friend, this dentist spent time with me every week, researching everything he could about my symptoms. After 8 months, he knew it was TN. After 11 months, he performed a 2-hour procedure and afterwards put me in a "bite brace" (similar to a TMJ appliance) just long enough for the nerves to recover. It was at the 2 week mark that I noticed the pain was beginning to ease. By week 4, it was completely gone. After 5 years of chronic, debilitating pain... I'm crying my eyes out just trying to explain this... I was literally given a second chance in life. I was able to have a fourth daughter, adopt 3 sons (in progress) and enjoy a busy, fulfilling life again. After my sister's suicide attempt, I asked my friend if he had written about his experience in medical journals. He explained that the medical community wouldn't take his findings seriously. He is successfully treating other TN patients, and hopes that with enough evidence, the medical community will take a closer look. Many TN sufferers would rather suffer than stoop to the level of "dental work" or "experimentation." I've been there too. But thanks to a brilliant friend, who I trusted completely, who was willing to spend almost a year of his life researching and figuring this out, I literally have my life back. Pain free, med free and full of gratitude. Thank you Dr. Sivers!

I submitted a request for call online and got a call less than an hour later the same day, was able to schedule a same day appointment, and left with both the extreme pain my jaw and my fear of dentists completely alleviated. I also was presented with a warm fuzzy blanket and sound canceling headphones during my procedure, which was completely painless. The next day Dr Melcer called me personally to ensure that I was recovering and not having any issues. Easiest and best dental experience of my life!

Massachusetts Dentists Warn About Risks of Pain Med Crackdown

Interesting article from our own Boston Herald on the state's increased efforts to crack down on doctors who over-prescribe pain medication. Medical professionals who abuse their license for profit are an embarrassment to the profession, and hopefully police are able to stop them. But it's important to remember that many people need pain medication for legitimate reasons, and the threat of prosecution could have many negative effects.

People from Massachusetts state medical and dental associations warn of some of these potential drawbacks in this article, which is worth a read. Whatever the outcome of this crackdown, we hope law enforcement is able to draw a sensible line between people abusing the law and responsible professionals looking out for their patients.

#SedationDentistry #PainMedication #Boston
Doctors and dentists said they worry a new law enforcement crackdown on opiate prescriptions could have a chilling effect on those who help patients manage chronic pain.“I think we need a balance,” said Dr. Jonathan M. Davis of Tufts Medical Center. “You have to be careful. The last thing you want is for the front page of the Herald to show a doctor being led away in cuffs, and it turns out he has a palliative care (pain management) practice.”

Experiencing Pain After a Root Canal?

The old stereotype of the root canal as a painful and traumatic procedure is no longer true, as modern medicine and surgical techniques have made it a painless and effective means of fighting tooth infections. This means that if you come home from a root canal, take your post-surgery medication as directed, and are still experiencing pain, something is probably wrong.

This blog post explains what you should do if you experience significant pain after your root canal, and what you can do to prevent this from happening. For obvious reasons, there is always a chance you will feel some pain after surgery, but getting prompt attention from an experienced dentist will help identify the underlying issues.

#RootCanal #Toothache #Boston
When you have a toothache, the culprit is often infected tooth pulp, which can be treated with a root canal. Despite the usual cartoon cliches you hear about root canals, they are painless procedures

Dental Veneers Restore Symmetry to Your Teeth

When looking to fix your teeth, it’s important to keep symmetry in mind. The length, gum line, and color of your teeth should be the same on the left and right sides of your face, or at least as similar as possible. Facial symmetry is generally considered an attractive trait, and the symmetry of your teeth can definitely affect this.

One service offered by Charles River Dental can help make your teeth more symmetrical. Porcelain dental veneers cover chipped, cracked, or misshapen teeth, and blend right in with the existing teeth in your mouth. Whether you just need a few minor changes to your smile or a complete overhaul of how your front teeth look, porcelain veneers can help.

Foods That Promote Good Dental Health

As important as regular brushing and flossing are to your dental health, dental advice about your diet often goes overlooked. We may be used to thinking of our diets in terms of our stomachs, but a high-sugar diet can be equally harmful for your teeth and gums.

Fortunately, the American Dental Association has created a list of foods that are good for your teeth. If you can include some of these in every meal, you will be on the right track to improving your dental health and reducing your risk for cavities. In addition to diet and hygiene habits, make sure to visit your dentist at Charles River Dental twice a year for regular checkups and cleanings!

Do Your Wisdom Teeth Need to Be Extracted?

Just when you begin to think you are finished with the development of your teeth and the orthodontic issues that can arise in your teenage years, your wisdom teeth begin to grow and make everything complicated again. Too often, wisdom teeth can have a disruptive effect on the alignment of your bite and the spacing between your teeth.

If your mouth is large enough to accommodate wisdom teeth, there may be no issues. However, not everyone's mouth is large enough, and you may not realize there is a problem until it is too late and your wisdom teeth have become impacted. To spare yourself unnecessary pain and dental work, it's a good idea to get your mouth checked out by a dentist before you start feeling pain.

Does Your Cosmetic Dentist Give You Options?

Cosmetic dentists know how to make your teeth look good. If they are suitably experienced and qualified, they can even recommend procedures and care tips that they know will make your teeth look better. However, not every dentist thinks to do this. Some dental practices  may perform dental work without asking you about your cosmetic dentistry goals.

The dentists at Charles River Dental are more conscientious. Gum Disease Linked to Breast Cancer

Another reason to watch out for gingivitis: according to recent medical research, post-menopausal women with gum disease are more likely to develop breast cancer than those with healthy gums. Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, affects approximately 38% of women in the United States.

If you have periodontal disease, the dentists at Charles River Dental can help you with effective treatments from experienced professionals. We can also give you the advice you need to prevent the more serious symptoms of the disease, such as receding gumlines, bad breath, and loose or decaying teeth.
