Losing the election by ten votes or by a million--which is worse? "Missed it by that much," is a way to amplify how we feel when we don't succeed. So, when we miss the bus by just a few seconds,...

This is brilliant - thank you Kathy. I think understanding cognitive resources must hold the key to better understanding, diagnosis and management of ADD. Also, flip that idea around, it can probably help explain why so many techs and people who spend a LOT of time on internet exhibit ADD-like symptoms.

Hi,

I'm having problems managing lists in the current version. I've taken a screencast to demonstrate. Basically, it seems the lists menu isn't recognising taps.

Have a look: http://youtu.be/T-TW1egbUmI

Having the same issue. The lists show up but there's no response when I try to click on one to add somebody to it.

Sweet!

Just got the Cyanogen R38 update for the Oneplus One -- now with camera RAW!

So far no issues. I did get a new lock screen, which I'm not going to use. Supposedly better battery life, but I was already getting 20 hours so that's just gravy. I'll have some numbers for you in a few days.

If you enable camera RAW the camera takes both a JPEG and a 16MB RAW file. The raw format is Adobe's standard DNG. This picture you see is the JPEG; the raw version is here if you want to play with it: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/41648/IMG_20141014_054657.dng  .

I'm pretty excited about this.

Stop what you're doing and watch this right now. And crank up the sound - it's INCREDIBLE!
Drop whatever you're doing and watch this. NASA has released videos shot from onboard the Space Shuttle's Solid Rocket Boosters in the past, but you've never seen one prepared as masterfully as this.

Interesting how Three have concentrated on real-world performance - i.e., web browsing, latency and coverage - at the expense of raw throughput. It's a canny move because these are the things that will make a perceptible difference, whereas outright throughput will make hardly any noticeable difference to anyone, unless you're uploading/download huge files all the time (and who does that on mobile anyway?).

These are the pervasive brain myths that teachers around the world believe

Have you heard the one about how human beings use only 10% of their brains?.

A survey conducted by Paul Howard-Jones at the University of Bristol and published in Nature Reviews Neuroscience asked teachers in China, Greece, Turkey, Netherlands, and the UK whether or not they agreed with a series of popularly held—but erroneous—beliefs about the brain. The results, to put it mildly, were disconcerting.

Jones’ research found that 59% of teachers in China and half the teachers in the UK and Turkey believe that we only use 10% of our brains. The survey also showed that the majority of teachers in China, the UK, and Netherlands believe that children will be less attentive after having a sugary snack (also untrue). And 91% of teachers in the UK think people are either “right-brained” or “left-brained” (turns out we use whichever side we need).
Yes. A significant percentage of teachers across the globe believe their pupils' brains will shrink if they drink five glasses of water per day (it won't).

Gourmet fast food. They really care about sourcing ethical, fresh, local, quality ingredients with provenances proudly written up on the menu boards. The day I went they had fish fresh from nearby Seaford and potatoes from Kent from which they make the chips fresh on-premises. Can't wait to try the gourmet burgers - they look mouth watering. The food I had was tasty, fresh, hot and well-cooked. Packaging is environmentally friendly and biodegradable. Staff were cheerful, chatty and friendly. Definitely a cut above the rest. A superb chip shop.
