Very interesting opinion piece on where IBM is headed and where it should be going - written by someone in GBS!
It highlights things I have stated (sale/disappearance of less performing entities) and things I have thought of recently (breaking up less performing entities into wholly-owned or arms-length subsidiaries -- or even totally independent).
The market has been changing for some of the smaller revenue groups, and this change is accelerating. I've been saying for a while that Rational, for example, is going the way of Lotus, especially with the accelerating growth of open source tools. Is it time for that group to get a new direction and more independence?

Of course, it's better if you product does not need to be returned, but when it does, it is better to be prepared.
(Or A Tale of Two Return Policies). Suppose you have a bad keyboard. The thing works but the lettering is faded or one key doesn't work correctly. You want to get it fixed but you don't want to be without it. My laptop keyboard broke. I called the manufacturer who was quite helpful.
