Yesterday I was proud to join hundreds of people to act on Dr King's legacy by standing up for living wages and jobless benefits for workers who are most burdened by society's growing income disparity and economic injustice. When thousands families work full time but can’t put food on their tables without the aid of food stamps, when they can’t get afford adequate healthcare , when they can’t get paid sick days, then we have to fight against this inequality. If it means getting arrested in an act of civil disobedience, then we bear that arrest as a badge of honor.
About 30 protesters were arrested Monday when they blocked a bridge to LaGuardia Airport while demanding livable wages and a Martin Luther King Day paid holiday for airport workers.
