I sometimes think about doing up my family with the Star Wars sitckers, and then taking on an extra Slave Leia to the side with "Accepting Applications" beneath it.

Of all the chemical reactions we've covered within the past few months, the one filmed below probaby takes the prize for coolest looking and possibly scariest. After the pile of reactants is lit, it begins to look like tentacles are crawling out of a portal to Hell.

It will get worse.
We will see or learn of other atrocities.
We will watch other unarmed men, women, and children be murdered.
And the powers that be will do what they've always done: circle their proverbial wagons and defend their power base.

Time to change the equation. Time to find local, state, and national leaders who aren't part of "the system."

Time to #RebootTheSystem
#Ferguson

yes i notified you. This is the first time I have knowingly done so.
Dear America,
We need to talk. I want you to look at these pictures. If you have time look at them all. If you're like most people you will describe them as the following :
scary
heart wrenching
race related
violent
unnecessary

As much as those words may ring true for you I feel we also have another way to look at it. This is your America. Mine and yours. Right here in these pictures and taking place in Furgeson right now. This is what's been hiding quietly within so many of us stripped naked, exposed and laid bare for the world to see. It is a chain reaction brought about by the murder of an unarmed man and the desperate attempt to cover up facts by the people who committed the crime. This is the physical embodiment of America's frustration.
Our government has committed atrocities against the people for decades. The NSA lords over us all. We can not think for ourselves lest we be labeled a terrorist. We can not move about freely. We are scanned, finger printed, photographed and bullied into submission. They tell us what to eat and what to drink. They tell us where we can and can not grow our gardens. They take our children from us for the slightest of transgressions and place them in foster homes where they are later abused or killed. They pump us full of chemicals and drugs and  poison our food and water and claim its for the best. They indoctrinate our children with undeserved patriotism and they send our people to die in wars no one wants to fight. The police are protected and rewarded for crimes against humanity as are our military personnel.  Our politicians are in the pocket of every major corporation and the banks run it all. Free speech is now being confined to "zones" and our reporters are being told what to do and say. If they do not comply they are abruptly silenced.
This is our America and Ferguson as it stands right now is the beating heart of a new generation. It is the manifestation of something that has been burning within so many of us. A silent building rage and strong barrel chested defiance thrust forward against the authority which seeks to beat it out of us. These people are not black or white or hispanic. They are our sons and daughters and our cousins and our neighbors and our friends. They are America. They are all of us.
Many of you have passed around petitions against the NSA and fought for net neutrality and protested wars from the comfort of your chairs at home and some of you have looked at pictures like these throughout the years and wished you could have helped. Wished you could have had the courage and the guts and the chance to stand against the tear gas and the pepper spray and fight not for yourselves but for your children and for your children's children. You've thought about the future with dread and wondered how many years we have left before our country turns into our worst nightmare. Will your children have a future or will they be dressed in grey marching about in stiff unending lines to their designated places of residence?
If you see Ferguson as one simple case of black against white I'm here to tell you that you're wrong. If you see the looting and the fires and the destruction of property as a bad thing I'm telling you that you're being short sighted. The insurance companies will rebuild them and at the end of the day its just brick and mortar. It's a necessary evil. As Thomas Jefferson once said
“The people cannot be all, and always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to the importance of the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. ... What country before ever existed a century and half without a rebellion? And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure.”
― Thomas Jefferson, Letters of Thomas Jefferson
The rage of Ferguson doesn't need to be silenced. It needs to be spread. Our president claims ignorance of the events. He says he didn't know that the national guard had been called in and that he learned of it on the news. Not only are our leaders corrupt but they are also inept!
I support the people of Ferguson. We all should. If you value our county... REALLY value it... you need to fight for it. If you can not fight for it personally then you should forget the topic of skin color that the media continues to impress upon you and see this for what it really is... A metamorphosis. No great change in nature is clean. Evolution is always messy. It is never pretty. It is however necessary and what's happening in Furgeson right now is a change we need to embrace despite our fears.

I want to try to do a thing.

I have no idea if this thing will have any interest. But I'm going to try it anyway.

Growing up in the southeast US, it was common for different groups to put together recipe books as fundraisers. Churches especially love these. I probably own four or five church recipe books that I've been gifted over the years.

IF there's sufficient interest, I'm going to compile a g+ cook book.

Give me your favorite family/friends/personal recipes. Maybe with a pic of the finished product. I'll compile them, broken down by category, and publish this as a PDF. If there's enough interest, I'll send it to a print-on-demand service for paper publishing as well. You'll be credited for your contributions of course.

If this happens to make it, any profits will go to charity. Most likely food pantry services in the Dayton Ohio area unless someone suggests a better fund to donate to. (Lots of people donate to food pantries around thanksgiving and Christmas. But people need food year round...)

So share your recipes. Either in the comments here or in your own posts (plus me in if you want to make sure I see it.)

Leadership is solving problems. The day soldiers stop bringing you their problems is the day you have stopped leading them. They have either lost confidence that you can help or concluded you do not care. Either case is a failure of leadership.
~Colin Powell

+Vernon Lee you have a good point. But I believe the federal government can and should pressure states to do so.

Also, something like this brings attention to the issue, which may fuel state campaigns to pass similar laws at that level.

Introduction
Most of my posts go out to All Circles, but sometimes I -split the streams- er relegate stuff to specific circles.

If you're reading this and wonder what circles to put me in I love all things:
  • Fiction - horror, fantasy, sci fi, action, graphic novels basically in that order
  • Politics (US) I'm left-leaning, pro OWS. But I'll discuss any political stance as long as it's not a rabid religion for you, and/or your stance doesn't equate to acceptance of bigotry, misogyny, racism, etc.
  • paper-based RPGs -- published, home-brew, playing, GMing, etc.
  • Writing in the topics from Fiction, above.
  • Religion -- pro- or con-, Christian or other or atheist or .... just so long as it's not "my beliefs are the only valid ones, convert now or burn forever" and/or your stance doesn't equate to acceptance of bigotry, misogyny, racism, etc.
  • Humor, LolCats, etc
  • Information Technology, technology, programming, web design, etc.
  • General Weirdness for those things that just don't fit anywhere else.
  • Open-mindedness, if there is such a thing (LGBT, etc. sort of things that are interesting or insightful).
  • Diabetes. I have had insulin-dependent diabetes since high school. It sucks. Want to talk about your diabetes-related struggles?
  • Grown-Up Talk - I don't post porn. I do fairly often talk about things that are not PG-rated. If that offends you, sorry 'bout your luck, but I'm probably not the one you want to circle.
Let me know what circles you'd like to be in from the above list as well.

If you circle me and your profile and/or posts lead me to believe your sole purpose behind using Google+ is to try to sell me something or get page-views on some blog, I will report your profile as spam. I get enough spam in email; I do not need it in my G+ stream, too.

If you don't interact on my public posts, chances are I will not circle you back.

If it's not obvious from the above lists, I don't like bigotry, misogyny, or etc.. I don't like anyone using some excuse to mask hate in any of its many forms. I don't like it. I don't want it. If that's the shit you're selling, sell it elsewhere.

Also, anything I post is my opinion and only my opinion. It is never meant to be taken as the official stance of HBO, CIA, NSA, SCOTUS, POTUS, or anyone else, including my family, my employer(s), or my co-workers. MY thoughts. Not theirs. MINE. ALL MINE! BWaahaha.. er, um, yeah.
Bragging rights

I have sucked at the fountain of 300 bps manual dial modems. I have run the BBS. I have patched the wires behind the network closet door. I have built the things. I have fixed the things. I have patched the things.
