Why do I want to pet them?
 
"Termites eat and.... reduce the size of our homes"......The Dorze people live in the Guge mountains of Ethiopia around 3,000m above sea level. It is a beautiful region with a population of about 38,000. The Dorze are famous for their weaving; it's a skill that they employ on their clothes, fences, blankets and homes. Their homes are built from bamboo with a thatch of enset (false banana) leaves. As well as using enset, a drought-resistant plant, to build with it is also an important food used to make kocho a fermented flat bread.

This house is 90+ years old, taller than the average home of that age. Termites eat at these structures from the bottom which, over time, causes the home to shrink. As the home gets smaller it is put to different uses eventually ending up as a kitchen. It takes a couple about 3 months to build one of these dome homes. Below one of the villagers explains...

Introduction
Photography is a way of making love to the world. I believe that at every moment there is beauty in front of us, if only we have the eyes to see it. At age 55,after practicing medicine for 20 years, I sold my first photograph. Since then many people have asked to buy my images. I think this bodes well for the next part of my life. Sometimes I take a photograph that looks in some ways like what I saw, other times what I produce is more like a digital painting. Once I have an image that I like I keep working with it until I feel really happy, really excited. And that's when I hope to share with you. That feeling...
