THE IMPORTANCE OF INVESTING IN PEOPLE SELECTIVELY

People are an important part of our lives. They broaden our minds, give us love and affection, and help us grow. But not everyone we meet is good for us. Some people seem to have little or no impact on our lives. And yet we continue to invest time in them. As a result, we veer away from our priorities. Why does this happen? It could be because we are lonely and crave attention. Or it could be an addiction. My theory is many of us are not clear about who deserves what degree of time investment in our lives. Hence we lose focus. And in the digital age where social media has entered the very fabric of our lives and total strangers become seemingly intimate very fast, it becomes all the more easier to lose focus about who is important and why.

I have been finding it hard to explain to my mother what a life coach and executive coach does.

I told her as a life coach I help people achieve their potential.

What does that mean, she asked me.

I told her it means I help my clients do better than what they are doing currently.

My mother thought about that. Then she said, ‘If someone is well settled, why would they need a coach?’

The way she used the word ‘Settled’ with all its hidden and seemingly obvious implications opened up a train of thought in my head.

COACHING: A WAY TO FEEL PSYCHOLOGICALLY SETTLED

I have been finding it hard to explain to my mother what a life coach and executive coach does.

She asked me,  ‘If someone is well settled, why would they need a coach?’

The way she used the word ‘Settled’ with all its hidden and seemingly obvious implications opened up a train of thought in my head.

#HelpMyLifeSucks

Recently, a client told me he had received so many successful contracts in the past year it was starting to go to his head. “How do I stay grounded?” he asked me. Firstly, I told him many people would gladly trade places with him! A lot of success was a good problem to have. So he should celebrate the moment. Then I told him it was also important to remember nothing was permanent. Success and failure were parts of life and both could visit us at any time. So it was best to maintain a ‘this too shall pass’ philosophy. Also, a famous philosopher once said “I have learnt more from failure than from success. Success teaches you nothing. Failure teaches you a lot.” So treat success coolly and learn from every failure!

PASSION DOES NOT COME TO YOU FROM ANGELS

A lot of young people come to me with the same problem: I haven’t found my passion yet.

Some know what their passion is. These people come to me with different questions: How do I make a living out of my passion?

Ours may well be called The Age of Passion. More and more people are buying into the idea that long-term happiness depends on the discovery of this elusive but precious quantity called passion.

WORK ETHIC BEATS TALENT, IF TALENT HAS NO WORK ETHIC

Have you wondered how someone with half the talent can be more successful..
Yes. It's possible. He may have a strong work ethic?
He may be pursuing his practice routines with 100% vigour every single day?
He may be confident about his abilities and is telling himself the right story in his head.
