A diet that is wholly conductive to the practice of Yoga and spiritual progress is called Yogic or Sattvik diet. Diet has intimate connection with the mind.
After the many years of research, our Yog Guru, Dr. Sushil Yogi found, without Sattvik (Yogic) foods, our mind cannot be prepared for deeper meditation. We do not get pure and peaceful mind without taking Sattvik food.
Diet is of three kinds; Sattvic diet, Rajasic diet and Tamasic diet.
 1) Milk, barely, wheat, cereals, butter, cheese, tomatoes, honey, dates, fruits, almonds and sugar-candy are all Sattvic foodstuffs. They render the mind pure and calm.
 2) Fish, eggs, meat, salt, chillies and asafoetida are Rajasic foodstuffs. They excite passion.
 3) Beef, wine, garlic, onions and tobacco are Tamasic foodstuffs. They fill the mind with anger, darkness and inertia.
Food plays an important part in meditation. Different foods produce different effects on different compartments of the brain. For purposes of meditation, the food should be light, nutritious and Sattvic. Milk, fruits, almonds, butter, sugar-candy, green gram, Bengal gram soaked in water overnight, bread, etc., are all very helpful in meditation.
Live a natural simple life. Take simple food that is wholly agreeable to your system. You should have your own menu to suit your constitution. You are yourself the best judge to select a Sattvic diet.
Enjoy the life with Spirituality!

What is Dance Meditation?

Dance Meditation is a type of meditation that uses rhythm, attentiveness, and an intuitive state.  Many traditions of mediation are practiced while sitting still, but movement offers an equally profound meditative experience. Often times, people find that they are able to reach a place of clarity by “untying” internal issues through moving their bodies in dance, which may otherwise remained stuck without physical movement. Dance meditation is used as a form of self-discovery, self-expression, therapy, transcending the ego, and accessing another state of consciousness or trace.

The person I deem as my guiding light to my storytelling practice once told me that every story needs a focus. This same person, however, told me to remember that the mind is a muscle to be exercised…

“But also to be rested and left to lie occasionally fallow,” he said. “Empty it from time to time.”

With today being our first day off, I am siding with the latter. This post, I must confess, has no specific highlight other than to highlight the very highlight reel.

The day starts with a few of us gals getting up at the crack of dawn to take in the beauty of the Ganges River. Stripping down to favourite uniform – my one-piece, goggles, and swim cap – I dive into the chilly water as my morning cup coffee. The temperature, and swimming against the current, is what forces me to breathe.

On our way home, that breathing comes to a halt...

"Santosha" or contentment is one of the 5 Niyamas of the yogic path. Do not compare yourself with others. Be satisfied with who and what you are. You are unique. You are perfect just as you are. :)
