Happy Darwin day!
Happy Darwin Day!

Today is Charles Darwin’s 205th birthday, Wednesday (Feb. 12). Darwin revolutionized our understanding of life on Earth with his 1859, “On the Origin of Species.” However, despite the overwhelming evidence for his theory of evolution by natural selection--despite the fact that the theory is constantly being reinforced by new additions to the fossil record--despite the fact that evolution is seen as a scientific fact, many fail to truly understand it and, as a result, believe that it is something that is controversial and untestable.

Our Nightingale! Hats off!
Sarojini Naidu (13 February 1879 - 2 March 1949)  also known  as the Nightingale of India, was a child prodigy, Indian independence activist and poet. She was the first woman to become the governor of an Indian state. Her birthday is celebrated as Women's Day all over India.

Great work!!
An emergency vaccination campaign to reach over 210,000 children displaced by violence in Central African Republic (CAR) is now under way by UNICEF at major displacement sites in Bangui.

“All the elements are present for a potentially deadly outbreak of disease – severely overcrowded camps, low immunity and extremely poor water and sanitation infrastructure,” said Souleymane Diabaté, UNICEF Representative in CAR.

This vaccination campaign includes immunization against measles and polio, with the addition of vitamin A supplementation, deworming medication, and screening for malnutrition.
