#WABA is fighting to make Florida Avenue a safety corridor for #bicyclists and #pedestrians. The area is know for its chronic speeding problems and is also in need of wider sidewalks, a protected bike lane, and less vehicle lanes. A tri-state safety committee is one step closer to reality. Maryland recently introduced House Bill 119, which has already been approved by Virginia and the District of Columbia, to create the #Metrorail Safety Committee. This committee will provide local authority to respond immediately to safety concerns and problematic employees with less bureaucratic road blocks than the current provisions. British lawmakers are set to roll out new insurance policies for #self-driving cars. There will be one policy to cover the driver and the driver’s actions while in control of the vehicle, and a separate policy to cover the car when it is in automated mode. Experts believe that this will initially raise the cost of insurance, but in the long run will level out and provide a quick and easy compensation for crash victims. D.C. is revising plans to charge $1,000 fines for drivers going 25 mph over the speed limit, but the revised plan will still usher in the most expensive fines in the country with a $500 fine for city street infractions and a $400 fine for highway infractions.
