Chad is the Director of Social Media and Interactive Marketing for the State of Michigan’s economic development agency, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. MEDC is responsible for executing Governor Snyder’s economic development strategy and directing the popular Pure Michigan campaign, promoting Michigan as a great place to live, work, and play.
Chad Wiebesick oversees Pure Michigan’s social media efforts across eight social networks including Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Instagram, Pinterest, Flickr, YouTube and the Pure Michigan Connect blog.
Pure Michigan is a leader in social media among all state tourism offices and received a 2012 Mercury Award for “Best Use of Social Media” by the U.S. Travel Association. Pure Michigan’s social media efforts have also been ranked as best in the nation 10 out of the last 16 quarters by Think Social Media. No other state has achieved this ranking more than five times.
Pure Michigan has 500,000 Facebook fans, more than 90,000 Google+ fans, and nearly 50,000 Twitter followers.
Chad is a founding member of the Social Media Association of Michigan, a recipient of Online Media & Marketing Magazine’s “America’s Top 20 Interactive Media Rising Stars,” and a national finalist in Media Magazine’s “Creative Media Awards” competition.
Chad has judged advertising award shows, presented at Internet marketing conferences throughout the Midwest, published articles in national magazines, won accolades for his professional achievements, and served on boards of professional organizations. He has certifications in both Google AdWords and Google Analytics.
Chad is a past President of the Ann Arbor Ad Club, where under his leadership the organization won 2nd place for "National Club Achievement of the Year" for Programs from the American Advertising Federation. He also previously served on the board of 313 Digital, a 750-member professional organization for interactive marketers in Michigan.
Chad is passionate about positive ideas for Michigan. In 2010 Chad organized an Ann Arbor flash mob in support of the City of Ann Arbor and University of Michigan’s efforts to win Google Fiber, an Internet connection 100 times faster than most Americans currently have. The Mayor of Ann Arbor participated in the flash and the event was reported in The New York Times, Fox 2 Detroit, and other news.
