"Crescent"
Arches National Park, Utah, USA

** First released publicly at the Bighorn Gallery at the Dead Horse Point State Park, on display July 3 through September 3, 2017 **

At the close of an evening shooting sunset in Arches, I knew it was a night to be on the lookout for the crescent moon. As I approached Balanced Rock, timing for the opportunity was perfect! I prepped my gear with a telephoto lens, sprinted to the top of a hill, and captured the end of twilight, with the waxing moon. What a magnificent moment. And then I realized my mistake... I had to find my way back to the car in the desert... without a flashlight. It was worth it!hill, and captured the end of twilight, with the waxing moon. What a magnificent moment. And then I realized my mistake... I had to find my way back to the car in the desert... without a flashlight. It was worth it!

"Return"
Kauai, Hawaii, USA

I captured this magical scene back In 2009, during my first visit to Hawaii. My family joined friends for a wonderful late winter getaway. At the time, my wife and I shared a philosophy to never re-visit the same location twice, so that we could spend our lives seeing the world. This was the philosophy, until we visited Kauai. It was the first place I yearn to return.

"Vision"
Redwood National Park, California, USA

Morning mist was thick, and the chilled air seemed to crawl through my jacket. Nevertheless the rich, green forest called out to me, and I was unable to withstand the desire to meander. As I hiked, I noticed the forest floor was covered by dew, and each step flicked water droplets onto my boots and legs. In no time I was soaked from the knees down, but I persisted exploring. Then as I crested a small hill I saw this scene. Morning light sprayed upward in all directions above my head. What a magnificent vision! Prints available at https://goo.gl/dRV30k

"Bonneville Lake"
Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah, USA

After enjoying an evening of photography with fellow photographers on the shore of the Bonneville Salt Flats, the light had nearly dissipated when suddenly a soft pink glow appeared over the horizon. Calm wind prevailed, helping us capture nearly perfect reflections of what I dub Bonneville Lake, an intermittent lake that normally is seen during winter and spring months.

"Time"
Colorado, USA

My wife and I pre-planned a visit to Colorado one year in advance in hopes of capturing majestic scenes with autumn color. Upon our arrival we were not disappointed. As is the drill, about a third of the leaves were gone, a third were at peak, and a third were still green. That is perfect timing in my opinion. We hiked around the area for several days under gloomy, rainy, and snowy skies. Then on this day the sun peaked out as I meandered up a precarious hillside, just difficult enough my wife remained behind. I wandered solo along this boulder field looking for a mixture of both yellow and orange/red aspen leaves. As I peered through the viewfinder, I was elated to come across this scene. I took a single exposure, knowing this would be the keeper. And it was just in time, as that night a wind storm swept the area, cleaning these particular trees of most of their fall foliage.

"Dynamic Zion"
Zion National Park, Utah, USA

Most often the Zion Narrows are captured with sunlight glowing around each corner; however during my visit overcast skies prevailed providing an opportunity to focus on even lighting with cooler tones in the canyon. And doubly nice was our timing in capturing autumn. A colleague and I dressed ourselves in dry suits, and wandered up the river. I spent hours waiting for both the crowds to disappear and the wind to provide a light breeze which made the leaves glitter in a painterly-like pose. The dynamics of the scene, from deep shadows, to cool highlights, made for perfection.

"Moment"
Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming, USA

We waited a good portion of the day, for that special moment when both the clouds and sun cooperated to show the desired light and shadows. And to pull off a 3-shot panorama made it that much more difficult. Patience is the number one requirement to get that shot you want! With +sietskenichols at the Tetons!

"Draw"
Providenciales, The Turks and Caicos Islands

The draw to the Caribbean for me personally is constant. Once a trip to the area is planned, the anticipation is nearly unbearable. Thankfully I find myself here again; however my high-terrain vehicle got a flat tire on the way to my evening shoot. I went to the repair shop, and thankfully they were fast, as the setting sun as quickly approaching. Due to time constraints, I diverted from my original plan and walked a couple miles along the beach until I reached this beautiful bend in the sand, capturing the reflection of the colorful sunset. I setup the polarizer for maximum reflection, and snapped a series of shots, attempting to capture the all the glow on the sand. Prints available at http://goo.gl/QcpQDI
