Working on an album design this morning for this beautiful wedding couple!

We love creating layouts for our clients. All our albums are heirloom quality lay-flat books and our clients are involved in the entire process. They choose their favourite images to get us started and select from over 40 covers materials including leathers, leatherettes and silks.

We are so happy when we present these to our clients and know that they will cherish them.

Playful and Pure Love

When Kelly and Steven booked me for their wedding photography they were admittedly “shy and awkward” in front of the camera. We took the engagement session slowly and booked it for longer session. I showed them back of camera shots and built their trust in the process. This photo reminds me what building that trust can accomplish. We know that a wedding is a big deal and work to build this kind of trust with each of your clients.

Milky Way over Badlands National Park in South Dakota. I love working with long exposures and night photography. The Badlands landscape begged for Milky Way action with some light painting in the foreground. We got lucky with a very clear night and dark skies.

Here's my image from last week. This was shot on my Canon 7D Mark II (because I brought it mistakenly instead of my 5D3), with my Canon TS-E 24mm II, mounted on a towel (because I didn't have an arca bracket for the 7D2 to use it on my tripod).

I managed to still get a nice image but I can't stress enough how important a tripod is. Because of a tiny little shift when pressing the shutter I had to spend a couple extra hours in post production because the images didn't line up and the perspectives didn't match.

This is a composite of three images. The sky was a 45 second exposure and intentionally under exposed to add a little drama and keep details in the highlights since I was pointing straight into the sun. The foreground and middle ground (land and bridge) are from at 1/20s exposure to bring back the important details in the shadows. And, I pulled the flags back in from another 1/50s exposure because I wanted them clear and visibly flying.

Now back to editing weddings... ;)

Epic Milky Way Selfie at Erieau, Ontario

Tell me what you think??

Last week I posted a pretty awesome photo in Facebook of the milky way and a young couple on the pier at Erieau. I also promised I had something else coming and here it is. I love dark sky photography!

I call it "The 3 Hour Selfie". That's because that's how long I photographed in one spot without moving my camera. This is actually a composite image of 7 different photos taken at different speeds, ISOs and focus points over a 3 hour period. I was inspired by an awesome landscape and cityscape photographer named Elia Locardi (Elia Locardi - Look him up!!). He goes out each night or morning and reates one image that is a blend of time from sunset right through to complete darkness (or the reverse). And, his work is awesome! I am also influenced by a couple awesome Canadian photographers, Paul Zizka and Dave Brosha, who often include people in there incredible landscape images.

So here is my first time blend / environmental portrait.

What do you think???

Bull moose in Spring ~ Algonquin Provincial Park

This fellow is going to have an enormous rack in the Fall!

I had the pleasure of spending about 20 minutes or so with him, all to myself around 6:30am. He was enjoying a fresh breakfast and didn't mind the company. In fact, after a while he became quite curious and came over to check me out. His demeanour was one of calm curiosity but I still put my vehicle between us and stayed at a respectful distance until a passing car spooked him into the forest.
