Countdown of 10 differences between #Josetta & other translation solutions for +Joomla! from @vdrover on twitter today

10. Translators do NOT need to be familiar with #Joomla or login to the backend to use #Josetta

9. No need to duplicate menu items, categories and articles in each language — #Josetta does all the heavy lifting for you

8. Any extension that uses the multilingual features introduced in #Joomla 2.5 can use #Josetta — just write a simple plugin

7. All translations with #Josetta occur in one dedicated frontend interface, perfect for teams with little Joomla experience

6. You can start using #Josetta at any time, even if some of your content is already translated

5. #Josetta does not create new tables in your database or lock translations into a specialized format

4. You can remove #Josetta at any time. Your existing translations and site operation will not be affected in any way

3. #Josetta keeps track of what is already translated in each language and shows what is remaining for each language

2. There is no performance penalty or drop in page load speeds with #Josetta because there are no additional database queries!

1. #Josetta translations are 100% compatible with future #Joomla versions. You can upgrade at any time — no vendor lock-in!

+Tess Neale introduces browser caching through .htaccess in an accessible manner. I have tested these methods with results that were much more dramatic than the samples Tess presents.

As with all such methods, do analyze what you are trying to achieve and what the consequences may be. If you implement long cache periods for content that does change, you may frustrate your visitors. However implemented well you can achieve better results.

What do these results mean? Maybe it may not appear as much, but these days with sophisticated methods used by search engines to rank sites. Maybe simply the improved Google Page Speed results may be included in the parameters to rank your page just above the competition. Any improvement foregone, may be an opportunity lost.
When working with website performance improvements, adding Expires headers (browser caching) is part of meeting the recommendations from Google and Yahoo. This tutorial will explain how you can do it, in an easy-to-understand way.

10 second tips to a better Joomla Site - Joomla Plugin Order does matter!

A common mistake that is made when building +Joomla! sites is not checking the order in which the plugins load. Some plugins depend on being before or after others in order to function properly. I have not yet set the order on this site, but my first step is to set cache last.

A simple mistake is not to order the System-Cache plugin as "last", this generally is required in order for the cached site to perform properly. Common problems that occur when this plugin does not load last is that your site may be slower than expected, or some features work only once after the cache has been cleared. Only items that are executed before the cache plugin loads are cached, so features that load after the cache plugin are not included on the cached pages.

Do yourself a favor, just Log into Joomla Administrator, click Extensions, Plugin Manager, Filter for Caches and set the System Cache plugin order to 'last'

So easy and so underutilized, how often people randomly enable and disable modules and plugins instead of taking 10 seconds to have the answer displayed for you.

Thank +anthony Olsen
