Cancer accounts for almost half of the deaths of pets over 10 years of age. Dogs get cancer at roughly the same rate as humans, while cancer is less common in cats. Pain management is a critical part of cancer care in animals. Some meds used to relieve pain and other symptoms are only available in human dosage forms that are inappropriate for animals. CareFirst Specialty pharmacy can help by providing patient-specific flavored or topical/transdermal medications. Trying to boost your metabolism? Eat more protein! Your body burns more calories digesting protein than it does using fat or carbohydrates. Good sources of protein include white meat, lean beef, beans, eggs, nuts, and low-fat dairy products. #WellnessWednesday #GreatCareBeginsWithUs #CareFirstSpecialtyPharmacy #Cfspharmacy #Compoundingpharmacy #Pharmacist #Veterinarymedicine #Healthcare

What’s the difference between topical and transdermal medications? Topical medications work locally at the site where they are applied; they are not significantly absorbed into the systemic circulation so don’t have significant benefits or side effects throughout the entire body. Transdermal medications are absorbed through the skin and mucosal membranes, and affect the entire body. The type of base that is used to carry the active ingredient and the method used to compound the medication are two key factors that determine the extent of absorption. Transdermal medications are popular for pain management, hormone therapy, and preventing nausea or motion sickness. CareFirst Specialty Pharmacy can compound both topical and transdermal medications. Contact us today to talk how customized medications can help you and your family! #GreatCareBeginsWithUs #CareFirstSpecialtyPharmacy #Cfspharmacy #Compoundingpharmacy #Pharmacist #Veterinarymedicine #Healthcare

New research from The University of Texas at Austin identified several natural compounds found in food which could slow the growth of prostate cancer, including ursolic acid, found in apple peels and rosemary; curcumin, the bright yellow plant compound in turmeric; and resveratrol, found in red grapes or berries. "These nutrients have potential anti-cancer properties and are readily available," said corresponding author Stefano Tiziani. "We only need to increase concentration beyond levels found in a healthy diet for an effect on prostate cancer cells." These substances are available in quality supplements. Ask our professional staff for more information. 844-822-7379 #GreatCareBeginsWithUs #CareFirstSpecialtyPharmacy #Cfspharmacy #Compoundingpharmacy #Pharmacist #Veterinarymedicine #Healthcare https://buff.ly/2pIybCF

Medications can be discontinued or on backorder when manufacturers determine newer medications are more profitable, if a manufacturing facility is damaged in a hurricane, or if one of the needed ingredients becomes difficult to source. CareFirst Specialty Pharmacist can help provide medications that become unavailable due these types of reasons. We can obtain the active pharmaceutical ingredient and compound the needed drug in the most appropriate dose, dosage form, and flavor for each patient – including animals. Contact us if you need an “unavailable” medication! #GreatCareBeginsWithUs #CareFirstSpecialtyPharmacy #Cfspharmacy #Compoundingpharmacy #Pharmacist #Veterinarymedicine #Healthcare
