An other shot from this weekend shooting day with my friend Mustafa Arıkan. The location is "Kerpe, Pembe Kayalar (Pink Rocks), you can find more info about on my previous send.

Mustafa was very kind to share with me his awesome Lee Neutral Density Graduated Filters (ND Grad) which are used to balance the exposure in strong contrast scenes, like dark beach and bright sky. I've tried some exposures and experienced my theoretical knowledge in real shoots. This type of filters are really game changers, the correct use of ND Grad filters will improve your images without need of different exposure blending or HDR process.

But this image here is taken without need of any special filter. The sun had set about 15 minutes ago and it was a very special moment of a blast of strong magical light. A pink-orange color wrapped me and all the environment and showed that the color of the rocks are not the only reason why this place is called "Pink Rocks".

It was a great day with my dear friend Mustafa Arıkan.  We finally succeed to meet and drive nearly 140km from Istanbul to İzmit Kandira. There is a famous seaside small town "Kerpe" with his very interesting location "Pembe Kayalar - Pink Rocks".

This rocks are horizontal layers of limestone with red plates between them. The red color come from ferrous elements, originated from nearby volcanic activity at very old geological times. The regular fracture systems in rocks was an advantage to use them as building stones in history. Especially at sunset, when the sun hit the rocks, you will have a shower of warm colors.

This is my last shot before we leave the location. The sun (behind me) has sed before half an hour, but the last remaining light was enough to lit the rocks. Most people end shooting before or just after sunset for dinner, but passionate photographers know and wait for the magic light which manifests itself after sunset on some lucky days. You can think there is not enough light or color around to photograph, but give your camera a chance to sit on a tripod (or any solid surface) and give it time to collect the weak particels of light to show you the scene which is hidden to your nacked eyes.
