USA: The CEDAR DNS 2 wins the Cinema Audio Society Award for the Outstanding Product for Production in 2017.

CEDAR Audio is delighted to announce that the CEDAR DNS 2 dialogue noise suppressor has been honoured by the Cinema Audio Society. Managing Director, Gordon Reid says, "We are very proud that a CEDAR product has again won a CAS Award. Somebody once told me that winning one award can be a happy accident, but winning a second shows that you've really arrived. We designed the DNS 2 after many discussions with members of the CAS and their counterparts elsewhere who needed a processor of this type, so you can imagine how happy we are when they tell us that we got it right. And nothing tells us more than this award. We would very much like to thank the CAS 'Blue Ribbon' nominating committee and everyone who voted for the DNS 2."

The 53rd CAS Awards were presented on Saturday, 18 February in the Bunker Hill Ballroom of the OMNI Los Angeles Hotel at California Plaza, and the award for the DNS 2 was received on behalf of CEDAR Audio by Glen Trew, CEO of Trew Audio.

WWE relies upon the CEDAR DNS 2, DNS 8 Live and DNS1500 - "How did we cope before? We didn't."

Watch the video: https://www.cedaraudio.com/videos/wwednssmall.mp4

With 10 tour buses, 16 equipment trucks, two new TV trucks and a crew of 120, WWE is one of the largest shows in the world, and has incredibly complex audio requirements. With dozens of audio feeds being split for simultaneous in-house PA and live broadcasting, backstage recording and more, all being mixed in different ways depending upon the destination, problems such as generator noise, crowd noise, and the inevitable buzzes and hums have to be eliminated instantly with complete confidence and no artefacts. In this situation, there's no time to be loading workstations and running plug-ins, and any audio latency would render the feeds useless.

That's why WWE uses CEDAR for all of its noise reduction, using the DNS 2 for live interviews and backstage recording, the DNS 8 Live for live broadcast, and the DNS1500 for live mixing in the auditorium itself.

In fact, they love the products so much that they recorded a video to explain why and how they use all of their CEDAR products in these very different ways. Click on the link to watch it now.

UK: Just What The Doctor Ordered: the CEDAR DNS 2 saves Doctor Who

In the January 2017 issue of Audio Media International, Deian Humphreys explains why he uses a CEDAR DNS 2 dialogue noise suppressor on set while recording the latest series of the BBC's Doctor Who.

For the past three years, Humphreys has been the production sound mixer for Doctor Who's TV series and Christmas specials. He told Audio Media International that, "In a science fiction programme like Doctor Who, one minute you could have whispering dialogue that would all of a sudden erupt into levels that could blow your ears off". These sudden bursts of sound may be necessary to help give viewers the sensory thrills that they're used to experiencing, writes Adam Savage, but they create a few problems for Humphreys when trying to achieve his main goal: capturing dialogue that is as clean as possible. "There are all sorts of things that prevent us from doing that", Humphreys continued. "Smoke machines, wind machines, snow machines, sets made of wood so when people walk on them they sound awful... there's a generator that I'm always trying to get parked as far as possible from the set. We're also constantly having to battle against atmospheric conditions as well as traffic noise and aeroplanes."

"One thing I did invest in for this series is a CEDAR DNS 2. I was told that we were going to have to do a lot of ADR because of the traffic noise so I thought, 'I'll be the judge of that', and was completely blown away by what it was capable of." The DNS 2 was installed in the run-up to the filming of the Christmas special, noted Savage, presumably (he suggested) to prepare for the inevitable onslaught of those snow machines.

USA: The CEDAR DNS 2 dialogue noise suppressor has been nominated for a CAS (Cinema Audio Society) Award for the Outstanding Product in Production.

"There were many innovative and outstanding choices in both production and post-production work flows," said Bob Bronow, Chair of the CAS Awards Committee. "Our Blue Ribbon panel was challenged to whittle the list of products down to only five in each category."

"We are delighted that a CEDAR product has again been nominated for a CAS Award", responded CEDAR Audio's Managing Director, Gordon Reid. "We were very proud when the CEDAR DNS3000 won an award in 2009, and also when the DNS2000 and DNS One with LEARN were nominated, so obviously we're hoping that the DNS 2 will be successful this year. We would very much like to thank the CAS panel for the nomination."

The Awards will be presented at a sealed envelope dinner on 18 February in the Bunker Hill Ballroom of the OMNI Los Angeles Hotel at California Plaza.

UK: The CEDAR DNS 2 is Highly Commended at the IABM Peter Wayne Awards

The CEDAR DNS 2 has been Highly Commended at the IABM's Peter Wayne Awards ceremony for design and innovation. As a previous Design & Innovation Award Winner it was put forward but, says CEDAR Audio's Sales Director, Clive Osborn, "we never imagined that we would come away with another award, especially against such prestigious competition. But when I heard the MC's introduction, saying 'this is going to change the way that we record audio', I knew that he was referring to the DNS 2. It's a cliché, I know, but I would really like to thank the IABM for recognising CEDAR Audio and the DNS 2 in this way. We're all really chuffed about this."

The Peter Wayne Awards were presented on Thursday 1st December during the IABM's Annual Awards Dinner at the Radisson Blu Heathrow Hotel.
