Fukui Prefectural Seaside Nature Center is free of charge and has many great interactive activities for children. Kids can not only learn about sea life through its exhibits, but there is also a petting zoo area. The only drawback for foreign tourists is the lack of English signage, but many things (petting zoo, crafts area) can be enjoyed with little or no Japanese.

Mediocre food and badly trained staff. Sad, because it's a great location right on the river. Nice for an afternoon beer but give the food a miss.
