Went on the grand tour of MCCI yesterday, and WOW! So grateful for visionaries like Terry who are quietly working to usher #Detroit  into its new glory days. MCCI took an abandoned, trash-filled space and turned it into this. Bravo!

We're happy to announce that we've moved to Detroit! Read all about our new headquarters in our Crain's Detroit Business feature here!
Terry Oprea is optimistic about the future of his integrated marketing firm — Mort Crim Communications Inc. (MCCI) — thanks to a batch of new clients, new employees and growing revenue. And the company's new downtown Detroit home was designed to reflect that spirit.

Sales team on a hamster wheel? Time to scale your sales meetings. http://bit.ly/1EuslnK #growthhacking

Is your sales team caught up in a hamster wheel – stuck in an endless series of meetings? Do you also happen to be in a field that has a long sales cycle and/or requires a fair bit of education along the way? If so, I have good news for you. There is a…
If you're in the business of selling products that require a lot of education, I'm betting webinars will be a win-win for you.

Not retargeting yet? Perhaps it's time to reconsider... "Retargeting ads have a 10x higher click-through rate than display ads – and visitors subject to retargeting are 70% more likely to complete a conversion compared to non-retargeted visitors."
[Paid Marketing] We’ve all experienced our fair share of retargeting and there are good reasons for why marketers do it. Retargeting ads have a 10x higher click-through rate than display ads – and visitors subject to retargeting are 70% more likely to complete a conversion compared to non-retargeted visitors. All great stuff, but retargeting ads can as annoying as people who play music from their phone in public places. If you’re not using your r...

An oldie but a goodie...
Inc.com
Why do some companies break through while so many others do not? Author and business consultant Keith McFarland has spent years researching thousands of private companies in an attempt to answer that very question. After studying the performance of more than 7,000 companies that have appeared on the Inc. 500 list of America's fastest-growing private companies, McFarland, a former Inc. 500 CEO himself, wrote the best-selling book The Breakthrough ...

This is a decent list if you take out automation <shivers> and add remarketing.
Google AdWords is a seriously powerful, dynamic online advertising platform, yet few users ever ...

Hey +Gmail - We need to talk about your auto-fill feature on email addresses. Today I received 2 emails from 2 different people intended for two different different Catherines... And it seems to be happening with increasing frequency. For those of us with common first names, and for the sake of email privacy, PLEASE get this fixed.

Thanks,
One of Many Catherines on the Interwebs

If Not Features, Then What? #MarketingHacks

When I spoke at the Association for Commercial Professionals in the Life Sciences (ACP-LS) a couple of weeks ago, it was a great experience to share this video on “Understanding the Job” and see the “aha” moments it created for marketers. Since they found it so helpful, I thought I’d share this “marketing hack” with you as well! Quite often…

A CMO, a CIO and the head of sales walk into a bar, and....

I don’t usually give safety tips on this blog, but to my CMO friends: if the CIO and the head of sales invite you out for a drink, just make sure to meet at a well-lit bar with plenty of witnesses people around. Just some friendly advice.
It probably comes as no surprise that digital marketing budgets are rising. But the velocity of growth is actually quite breathtaking. In research conducted by Gartner among their clientele, digital marketing budgets rose 20% in 2013. And they’re expected to rise again by double digits in 2014. For large companies, those are large budgets being […]

"When it comes to B2B sales, our ability to set concrete goals is lacking. Even when we make a concrete sales funnel, we often have a vague step called “Follow up” or “Get buy in.”  Great article on how to fix exactly this issue - and increase revenue while you're at it.
When it comes to B2B sales, our ability to set concrete goals is lacking. This is a fundamentally bad practice.

3 morals to this story: 3D printing rocks, take bad headaches seriously, and be a strong advocate for your own healthcare. It can - and indeed often does - make all the difference.
When his wife was misdiagnosed, Michael Balzer used 3D printing and imaging to get her well

More poetic thoughts. Does scalability matter to #startups? In a word, NO.

Almost every startup is obsessed with scaling. Engineering a design that can be mass produced. Or software that can handle masses of users. Here’s the harsh reality. Scalability won’t matter one hoot if you don’t have a market. That whole “build it and…

Blogged: Trying to figure out how to sell more stuff 'cause your marketing isn't working well enough? Try this!

Have you ever pondered the question, “What should I do to sell more stuff online?” If so, customer discovery may hold the answer you seek. Over time, I’ve seen a pattern where companies embark on an online marketing campaign hoping for growth in sales.…

Supporting Second Stage Entrepreneurs
Introduction
I <3 Detroit, my hubby and 2 awesome sons, the Red Cross, triathlons, and a whole lot more!

I am passionate about helping businesses grow in a few particular ways:

  • By connecting entrepreneurs to second stage resources. The path wasn't clear for me, and I'd like to help ease the path for others so they can spend more time creating jobs, enjoying life and less time re-creating the wheel.
  • Via online marketing (SEO, Paid Search, etc.). To that end, I co-authored the book "Internet Marketing Start to Finish" published by Pearson. (Available on Amazon or your local bookstore. ;-)
