Want to be Ultra Productive at Work? Know When and How to Say No

At work, knowing what wheel spinning work and the work that counts is vital.

Agreed, sometimes you have to do what you need to do in order to be able to do what you want to do. However, saying yes to every work you are given or asked to do can make your efforts at work counterproductive.

The sheer volume of wheel spinning work that is done just because 'we always do them' in some workplaces is mind numbing especially in a work environment where continuous improvement isn't practised.

Knowing how to politely but firmly say 'No' to non-productive or non value adding work is important because it helps you to pay more attention to real and meaningful work that adds value to the organisation.

Usually, it's worth having proven reasons for why you are saying 'No' to wheel spinning work.

Research conducted at the University of California in San Francisco shows that the more difficulty that you have saying 'No' to such wheel spinning work, the more likely you are to experience stress, burnout, and even depression.

Learning how to use your 'No' card strongly but politely at work will allow you to concentrate on value adding work, and it will lift your mood, as well as your productivity.
