My family gets take away here at least once a week, sometimes more. They have the best Chinese food in the area & I'm talking Plymouth to N. Quincy. Their dinner plates & late night dinner plates are huge, almost enough for 2 hungry adults. We've eaten in the dining room as well & it's dated but you get rolls & hot tea, service was fine. I can't understand the bad reviews on here. They've got a massive amount of customers & you're never going to make everyone happy but it seems like most of the complaints are about the lounge area, which we avoid so no issue here. Late night specials B & E are awesome as well as many of the lunch & dinner plates. We drive by 20 places & 2 cities to get their food so that should say it all.

The stench of mold and mildew burns your nose the moment you walk in the door. The carpets front to back are disgustingly filthy! Stains galore!! No wonder this place is commonly known as Cathay Pathetic. The decor has not changed since the 70's!

Let me start by saying that this USED to be one of my top two favorite Chinese places in the Boston area before I moved away last year. I will keep it short by saying that I was excited to introduce this place to my girlfriend when we were back in town recently and were shocked to get takeout in a sealed brown bag that ended up being covered with dozens of ants inside, obviously leaving the food inedible. This was very late at night and needless to say we were not sleeping in the parking lot, making it very inconvenient to return the food at that time. The next morning, at 11:01 am, I called the restaurant , not to scream and beg for a refund, but to inform them to check their containers and bags so that future customers do not encounter the same issue. I talked to a slime bucket of a manager who was rude and said "we should have brought it back the night before" and that "he can't do anything about it now"...When I informed him that I was calling as a courtesy and not demanding a refund, it got heated...and as someone born and raised in Boston, I usually win those arguments over 90 pound immigrants who serve food to customers covered in ants and think it is acceptable. I will never go to this place again and am enjoying the fact that I am contacting the board of health with the pictures of the ants. Maybe this is what authentic Cantonese food is, but I'm not too fond of eating bugs.

Love the karaoke... the food use to be delish now it's served so quick hence the cold tough meat. Drinks are cheap but you will need several as they are extremely watered down.

My first experience at the Cathay was over 20 years ago. I only go a couple times a year. New management has come in since then and the place gets worse and worse every time I go. The service is SOOOOOO slow. There was 10 people in the lounge and I was there for 15 minutes with no waitress in site. The drinks are so weak wouldn't be surprised if there was no alcohol in them at all. I haven't eaten there in over a year, but the food was good the last time I was there, so I can not comment on that. The lounge felt like it was 50 degrees. The waitress saw me put my coat in the coat room when I came in and said "it's cold in here, better leave your coat on" Really!, who about you ask them to turn up the heat. I honestly do not know how this place is still in business. I wonder what the board of health would say about the temperature in the restaurant! I'm done, this is my first and last review and visit to the Cathay. They should be ashamed!
