This hotel has an excellent location on Mission Bay, and is a short distance from the ocean beaches. The bay water is very calm, making this an ideal place to allow small children to play. This part of the bay is also excellent for adults wanting to try paddle sports. The beach has fine white sand that is kept in spotless condition, and a paved bike path. Most of the rooms have wonderful views. The property is in renovated condition, has solid management in place, and a favorable reputation locally. The restaurant and outdoor dining areas are very nice. There is on site parking and additional on street parking available in the area. The on street parking becomes challenging to find during peak use hours like Saturday morning. Also, please note that a lot of college aged people live in this area (referred to as Pacific Beach) and the bars along Garnet and Grand can get a little wild on weekends. These streets are far enough away from the hotel that guests should not be bothered.

It was my first time visiting the Catamaran Resort and it was amazing! It's exceptionally tropical and it feels like Hawaii (I have been to Hawaii.) There are ponds everywhere and you are a VERY short walk from Mission Bay. It was right outside of our hotel room. The pool was okay. The Atoll Restaurant is conjoined with the resort and has a great view! The lobby has a beautiful waterfall. Overall, the ambiance of the resort made my stay spectacular! I highly recommend this resort.

The hotel is generally great -- nice location, beautiful rooms. The Atoll restaurant was pricey but everything was wonderful and the service was great. Here's what wasn't so great, why I won't be back, and why I'd recommend others stay away. 1) Arrived at 3:30 p.m. and one of two reserved rooms was available. Was told we'd be called when room was ready. Having never been called, having seen housekeepers had left the floor, and seeing as it was a half hour after check-in time, I returned at 4:30. I was told the room still wasn't ready. I pointed out that they'd failed to honor the reservation. Clerk apologized and offered a $25 credit for the lounge. We ate instead at the restaurant (figuring a credit is a credit). 2) After finishing dinner at 6:30, still hadn't been called about the room being available. Went back to the front desk a third time. Was told room was ready and got the keys. 3) Noticed later emergency door at base of tower, the largest building was propped open, a clear safety and security issue. 4) At chekout, I realized the credit hadn't been given and that I'd been charged for two cars when I only had one. Had to argue those points at checkout, albeit successfully. Bottom line, there's no reason for a hotel with a 4 p.m. check in time not to have all reserved rooms ready at 4 p.m. This is just a matter of poor management, but more likely trying to save money on staff. California has an 8.5% unemployment rate I believe. Hire some more housekeepers. It's all part of a general philosophy of nickel and diming guests on quality and charges, and I won't put up with it.

This is a nice hotel. I repeat hotel. Its not a resort and not worth the $250.00 - $300.00 price tag for the rooms. The rooms are rooms that have been somewhat updated through the years but still lack the items that a true resort hotel has, such as tiled and glass showers, big spa like tubs and recessed lighting. We won't be back. It is mostly a glorified Holiday Inn Express. The bar and restaurants are wicked expensive. Kids galore. No adult areas for adults to enjoy like a true resort has. Even though you are a paying guest, there may be no room for you at the bar in the warmer months. Watch the hidden happy hour fees. Happy hour is mostly beer only. Our bad. We would recommend staying at a cheaper place because you basically get the same services except they cost you more here. Although the grounds are really nice, the price just isn't worth it.

Response from the owner - 3 weeks ago
We apologize you didn't enjoy your entire experience with us, but we hope you were still able to enjoy our resort amenities like the Catamaran Spa, fitness center, and Resort Water Sports rentals. Happy Hour is 7 days a week from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. and it includes $4.50 beers, $5.00 well drinks, $5.50 house wine, and $8.00 appetizers.

First time at the Catamaran resort. I loved it. They had entertainment shows in August. The staff was nice and helpful. Allyne, helped us in with our luggage and took a little extra time to show us around the resort and tell us about the rules of the resort and the nightly party boat that was free if you were a guest. you can walk to the beach or rent bicycles, segway, water toys, speedboat or a peddle boat. the rental store is right outside the resort.

Imagine Hawaii....but not so far, or expensive! This resort is a true hidden paradise in the middle of San Diego! I loved walking right out of my room onto Mission Bay and watching the SeaWorld fireworks from my room! The Bahia Belle is a must do, it is there cruise around Mission Bay with live music and dancing...too much fun!! Also, make sure you visit their spa, I can not say enough good things about my massage and the facilities! LOVE LVOE LOVE!!! Can't wait to come back :)
