Truth:

"...cover half your plate with nonstarchy vegetables"

Eat like that every day. Not just for weight loss.

My #1 weight loss trick is to cover half your plate with nonstarchy vegetables. Check out what other experts said:

A single letter differentiates the word “coach” from the word “couch.” But when it comes to achieving weight loss goals, that difference is a weighty one.

Not happy

Last night while I slept, my Galaxy S4 spontaneously burst into flames as it charged on my dresser. I actually slept through the noise, smell, and smoke but my wife didn't. Thankfully it woke her up and she was able to stop it before the entire house burned down.

I called +Samsung Mobile USA to report the issue and was transferred to a generic voicemail inbox. A few Google searches reveal many similar incidents with the S4 (burst into flames or melted while charging). There is obviously a problem.

Glad the damage was limited to the phone!

Branding Lessons from the Buffer Style Guide
Not just about a logo, but a consistent digital experience

I like going through different brand's style guides. There's always something new to learn from how an organization implements these types of guidelines. I came across +Buffer's today and was super impressed.

It's not complete yet but it has some great ideas that it's gathered from Atomic Design that are really cool.

Read more on the official +Buffer style guide here: http://dustn.ws/1Bk3xKf

In two days, I've discovered two awesome series of articles at +WIRED:

http://www.wired.com/tag/fantastically-wrong/

These are, of course, in addition to the always awesome:

To Zach Nader, digital images are inherently broken. So why not break them even more?

The mapping work is beautiful, but what it's showing is disgusting.
As a journalist digging into the long-term potential for shale oil—how much oil it might supply, and at what economic and environmental costs—I wanted to create a map showing the extent of this drilling boom to help me look for trends. In this post, I’ll explain how I did that.

We get by with a little help from our friends
Introduction
My business card says I'm a chemist.  That may or may not be what I do, but I am indeed a geek.  Other interests include food, wine, technology, animals, design, and wine.

I grew up in Hartsville, SC, and went to Clemson University for college, graduating in 2006.  I came back to Hartsville and soon started working as a technician in a lab.  I was later hired as as chemist in the an R&D Technical Services Lab.  I have two cats: Tater Tot and Murdock.  They are both fat and happy.
Bragging rights
Once staged a pudding eating contest as my talent in a mock pageant. I lost the contest and the pageant.

Exactly what it's supposed to be--great, fresh seafood from an honest proprietor. Buy fresh to take home or eat in the shop--they use a great breading and fry or grill to your specification. You can also order anything in the sea fresh-frozen or order by the case for parties. They always stock local seafood when available.
