More than 120 world class elite cyclists gather at Marie Kerr park in Palmdale for the 7th Amgen Tour of California. The Tour of California is an annual professional cycling stage race. It is one of the largest and most recognizable sports events in the United States.

After the demise of the Coors Classic, the Amgen has become one of the most important cycling events for the 20 UCI Pro Tour teams. Since it was upgraded by the UCI from 2.1 (category 1) to 2.HC, it is now, the United States' only 2.HC race. It is considered by some to be North America's equivalent to the Tour de France. Stage 6 begins in Palmdale and ends at Big Bear Lake.
