The Dentist Office Software Story: Commodities, networks, communities & defensibility.

h/t +Sean Ellis
I've been telling this fictional story about Dentist Office Software for years to describe why we are so focused on our “networks” investment strategy. Yesterday I told it at a HackNY event we did at the USV office and my partner Albert provided a finishing touch that really drives it home.

Description: Redeveloped this site for a client that was struggling with SEO. Decided to revamp the entire thing, allow them to upload new events across the US, and incorporate Schema.

Now, they rank #1 for their rather competitive, target keywords like "san francisco job fair", "san francisco career fair", along with other target cities across the US. Plus, Google Organic traffic jumped over 2x immediately.

Follow Up: Happy to hear feedback or other potential ways to leverage semantic markup here.

LOVE THE FEEDBACK!

Much appreciated. Digging into these now and will work with my partner on this.

+Mark Garrett -- Agreed on hiding blank BusinessEvent for those without set dates/locations.

Have any of you used +Screaming Frog SEO Spider? If not, I highly recommend it.

Among many other use cases, it helped me migrate a website with nearly 100,000 URLs with no issues.

#seo   #seotips
I've been meaning to write about how to use the Screaming Frog SEO Spider to audit redirects in a site migration for a little while. It's a really important feature, something we use all the time internally and love, and one that I realised perhaps not all are completely aware of.

Qualaroo mobile FTW!
Qualaroo Mobile is Sean Ellis' best kept secret. Or something like that. Here's how I added 6,489 email subscribers in 2 months from only Qualaroo Mobile.

Google Knowledge Graph and Knowledge Vault  -

While this is a good video on events in the Knowledge Graph, I am posting this for a different reason: JSON-LD.

The presenter, +Justin Boyan, mentions Google is "embracing" JSON-LD. Yes, this video is ~2 months old, so maybe I'm late to the party, but I remember a conversation had in this group with myself, +Aaron Bradley+Jarno van Driel, and a few others around Microdata & RDFa being "better" options because Google acknowledges those (can't find the discussion).

Anyways, anybody here have feedback on JSON-LD from Google's POV, as I see quite a few benefits if they do?

After looking this video i no longer understand, whether the HTML content is still needful... It seems to be enough to add just json ld array, and G will embrace your site.  +Dan Brickley and all, do you know, whether the correlation of json ld data and html content of the web document is still checked by algorithm? If not, this kind of making the implementation and analyzing of structured data as easy as possible can backfire with tons of empty pages auto populated with json ld data snippets.

"Growth hacking is bullshit."

Have we all been trolled?
Real growth comes from somewhere deeper than growth hacking. Growth at your company should be everyone's job. It's too important to hack it.

How about use all three forms, as gradual steps, but in reverse order? With buttons, Sign Up, Next, Submit, respectively? :)

Growth & Full Stack Marketing
Introduction
I'm an experienced full stack marketer who focuses customer acquisition and revenue growth. I am well versed in SEO, content marketing, semantic search, marketplace hacking, email marketing, software development, and growth hacking.

I have driven growth at several top technology startups, such as Pantheon where I more than doubled the user base and quadrupled monthly recurring revenue (MRR) to the mid-six-figures.

At Mavenlink, I grew the company from from 5,000 to 500,000 customers, while taking them from $0 MRR to six-figure MRR. At Pivotal Tracker (acquired by EMC), I doubled their organic traffic to nearly 500,000 monthly visitors and acquired thousands of new users.

In 2013, I spearheaded online marketing for The Lean Entrepreneur, which hit the New York Times, USA Today, BN.com, and Amazon bestseller lists.

In addition, I run a handful of projects for myself. Most recently, I captained PaleoHacks.com, which enjoyed over 1,000,000 unique visitors every month and more than 25 million page-views annually, which I subsequently led to an acquisition.

Avid traveler, sports fan, and relaxing on the beach.

Dr. Yavari is the best. I come down from Newport Beach for her as my dentist, but it's definitely worth it. Both she and her staff are extremely friendly and you can tell they care about your dentistry needs. Thanks!

Liberty Dental is the best. My approval process was less than 24 hours, plus no waiting period. Definitely the lowest cost dental insurance plans with the top dentist network in California. And pre-existing conditions are okay.

This place is awesome! A hidden gem tucked away in Costa Mesa. I needed a few pinatas for my Engagement Fiesta and am stoked that I found them. Not only do they have an excellent selection (I found everything I needed in their inventory), but they do creative custom pinatas. They are extremely nice, and even hooked us up with some candy to fill it and a sweet customized pinata stick. Looking for an excuse to need another pinata.

Thse guys (specifically Chris) are amazing. If you are looking for an engagement ring (or jewelry in general), definitely talk to Chris. He really spends the time educating you about the entire process, diamonds, jewelry, gold, etc. and learns what you are looking for. Both me and my (now) finance couldn't be any happier than Chris. You get custom jewelry from the experts!
