Thank you, Theresa Gardner!
ARTHRITIS
“I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) in March of 2000. I had been in Yuma AZ for the winter with the rest of the ‘snowbirds’, when I begun to hurt all over. Especially in my hands, feet, knees and shoulders. When we got home, I went to see a Rheumatologist and that’s when I was told I had RA. He started me on strong doses of Prednisone, and soon the pain was beginning to ease up.

We tried several of the RA medications, most of which were soon taken off the market and there wasn’t much left to treat my pain. He finally put me on Arava, and now I have to go in for monthly lab work to make sure my liver is doing okay, but the pain has remained.

Then in January of 2009, my best friend told me about Cascade Acupuncture Center and I met Carola Stepper, LAc for the first time. She recommended I begin a twice weekly regimen of Acupuncture for six weeks, and then re-evaluate my condition and see if there was any progress with the pain and swelling I have in my hands. It didn’t take the full six weeks before I knew I had found a treatment for my arthritis that required no harmful medications, in fact, no medications at all. I was feeling so much better, the swelling in my hands was going down, the inflammation and redness was better, I was sleeping better, but the greatest thing of all was the pain level had improved so much. I was ecstatic! I continued with the twice a week treatments until mid-April, then went to once a week for four weeks with no noticeable difference in pain levels. Except, of course, when I got out and dug weeds and trimmed roses, etc. But, it was such an acceptable pain because I had caused it, and I didn’t mind “paying” for it.

I am now going to once every two weeks (but this is my first trial for that). In my opinion, the three Acupuncturists at Cascade Acupuncture Center are angels with magic needles and the knowledge to know where they will do the most good. I am so grateful to have them in my life and their profession is miraculous. Thank you for all you’ve done for me and the difference you’ve made in my life.”

ACUPUNCTURE AND MASSAGE
“I have had fibromyalgia and arthritis for many years. I have been receiving regular Acupuncture treatments for 10 years and have never felt better – so I thought! Carola suggested to add regular massages to the Acupuncture treatments once massage was available at Cascade Acupuncture Center. I couldn’t believe how much of a difference it would make to receive Acupuncture and massage in the same day! My treatment results are even better and last longer. I am no longer experiencing the typical worsening of the fibromyalgia and arthritis symptoms during the cold and rainy season, like I did for so many years. I am now budgeting for regular massages additionally to my regular Acupuncture treatments, because I am worth it and frankly nothing else has made me feel so much better!”

Our Acupuncturists practice primarily what is known as a distal style of Acupuncture (Dr. Tan Style), which means that the needles are placed primarily in your arms, legs, scalp and ears—not directly into a painful or injured area. This style has proven to be very quick and effective at alleviating your symptoms, while also being very comfortable and allowing you to be fully clothed during your treatments. After your initial medical intake, you will be taken to either the Big Healing Room, where we have four recliner chairs set up to accommodate several clients, or to a private treatment room with a massage table. This is a healing space, so please respect those around you and be as quiet as possible if you are not alone in the room, ensuring that everyone gets the most out of their treatments. Please take off your shoes and socks and roll your pants and sleeves up to the level of your knees and elbows. Make yourself comfortable in one of the recliner chairs or on the massage table and your Acupuncturist will be with you shortly to begin your treatment.

A few weeks ago I was at the Cherry Fest in The Dalles with a booth, talking to people about Acupuncture. “ I haven’t felt the need to see an Acupuncturist.” was one of the lines I heard often.

I understand where they were coming from. They look at me as a medical provider, maybe a “specialist” of some sort. My guess is many people see their Primary Provider yearly for a physical, however many will see their Primary Provider mainly when they have symptoms. If people have never seen an Acupuncturist, they may or may not have information about when to see an Acupuncturist.

ACUPUNCTURE CAN TREAT AN ACUTE MIGRAINE
Acupuncture can also be effective not only in preventing but also in at treating a very severe migraine. One of our clients had gone to the Emergency Room three times in two months for their migraines. While the medications were helpful, these visits were expensive and stressful for our client.

During the first week of being seen in our clinics they had another very severe migraine. Since both of our clinics are very close to the Emergency Rooms in Hood River and in The Dalles, they decided to try an Acupuncture treatment first, knowing that they would be very close to an Emergency Room if needed.

Their migraine was significantly better right after their treatment and they managed without another Emergency Room visit and were able to return to work the next day!
