Few people stop to think about the origins of contract law in the United States.  Some say Western contract law can be traced back to the late 11th Century.  The concept was brought forth by the Catholic Church under the moral premise that to lie was a “sin”.  With this perspective in mind, the church set about to formalize the doctrines associated with contractual promises, and to establish civil remedies for those making false ones, or for not ...

Is it necessary for a property manager to disclose the name of the bank where the owner’s funds are being held on deposit? The license law demands this for tenant moneys but not the owner’s. Should we...

This was hanging in an office I recently visited. Maybe I just hang out with weird people but conversations about this come up now and then. So, just in case you're curious, this looks pretty authoritative.

I tuned in to the live webcast of Mark Zuckerberg's keynote address yesterday, where he announced the new Facebook features. Maybe I'm just an old fart, but I found some of it a bit creepy. This video gives an interesting perspective. (Does she really call him "Zuckerbird"?

I'm inspired by this story. I think I should do something like this when I renew my drivers license. Pastafarianism, indeed.

You file an eviction warrant and the tenant answers, but you don’t get notice from the court before the court appearance date.  So you don’t show up in court.  Oops!

Cristi has been great. Dana and Amy both got busy with other things after the course was over, so they've been a little slow. I'm optimistic that I can close it out in the next 6 weeks or so but that's the best I can do. Of course, the previous 2 SM's were unable to close out before the end of the year the course was held. It's a real hassle. Next time I see you, I'll fill you in on the rest.

I was amused by a comment +Will Paccione made in the earliest days of Google+: "Right now it's full of computer nerds in there since we're usually the first adopters of this stuff- Hanging out with nerds and no girls reminds me of junior high." Looks like his observation was correct! http://mashable.com/2011/07/14/google-plus-male/

UPDATE: A week after my experience, they sent an email asking me to post a review on their website. I did, an abbreviated version of the one below. Within a day or two, they deleted the review from their website. There is nothing honest about that. I've reduced my rating from two stars to one. =================== Having received numerous mailers from this relatively new shop I decided to give them a try. My vehicle had two issues, it needed air conditioning service and it was leaking power steering fluid. First, the good: They were professional and polite, the air conditioning service was completed promptly and the price was exactly as estimated (although whether it was a good price is in question, see the following). Now, the bad: For my power steering leak I was told that a hose and the power steering pump needed to be replaced, at a total cost of $800. I suspect that comparison shopping isn't all that common in car repairs, but for that amount of money I decided I should at least get a second opinion. I drove my vehicle to a nearby shop I've used in the past, and did not tell them anything about my visit to Honest-1, only that I had a power steering fluid leak. After their inspection they suggested that the hose be replaced. At that point I asked them about the pump, and they said they wouldn't know if that needed replacing until the hose was replaced and they could put the system under pressure. Bottom line, the pump ended up being fine, the hose was all that needed to be replaced, total cost $269. The power steering is now working fine, no leak. Not only did Honest-1 recommend an unnecessary repair that would have tripled my cost, when I compared their estimate to the bill from the other shop, every single line item -- parts, labor, fluid -- was higher in Honest-1's estimate than I was actually charged at the other shop. I give them two stars because they were polite and professional, but I will not be returning, and I recommend that if you are considering them, you compare their pricing to other reputable shops.
